Naranjito revived, once again, the alarm about the presence of invasive species On the island after social networks images showed that a Reticulated Python of approximately 16 feet devoured a dog of about 10 months.
The incident, which occurred on a farm, was shared by the hunter and content creator José “Gongo” Morales.
In an interview with The new dayThe hunter said he was in a university activity when he received a notification through social networks.
When opening the message, he ran into the disturbing images. It was not an unknown stage for him, but confessed that it was shocking.
“I have had cases of dogs, cats, goats, sheep that have been swallowed by snakes (…) But this hit me. I have seen cases of small dogs, but I had not seen such a big dog ”expressed by telephone about the incident that involved the snake and a German shepherd.
“Gongo” Morales indicated that, after receiving the images, he contacted the owner of the farm to know what happened.
“It seems that the owner’s son arrives and goes to the dog’s cage. The female was and the male. When he calls the dogs, only the female comes out. When she enters the cage, because she meets the snake that had eaten the dog. Once a snake is eaten an animal, the animal is already dead,” he said.

“Upon receiving the images, I think I don’t know what I am going to do with the videos. I don’t know if uploading it. I don’t know if publishing it because they are strong, but we decided to upload it because I don’t like to cover reality and people have to find out what is happening, ” The hunter expressed, who in March turned a year since he began to capture invasive snakes.
He told this medium that the population of this species, such as the reticulated python, one of the longest snakes in the world, continues to be a growing problem.
“They no longer have to eat on the mountain, there is no longer a large animal that can eat to supply and, therefore, they are closer to houses and farms where there are animals,” he said.
The content creator catches, together with the Retic project, between five to six snakes per week.
Once capture them, keep them in drawers and wait for the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources (DRNA) to pick them up.
Administrative order authorizing your hunting
June 17, 2024, in his Administrative order 2024-005Drna declared the constrictor Boa, the reticulated python and the scratched back snake as “harmful and dangerous invasors” species due mainly, to its excessive population growth, and included the royal python and the jarretera in the category of “invaders.”
The agency authorized the hunting “without amounts limit” of the five species.
In fact, in Naranjito, it was precisely declared an emergency state in the presence of invasive snakes, in particular, of reticulated pythons.
However, while the evaluation of the Senate Project (PS) 83–That proposes the “Law for the Management of Entracted Species” – remains pending, experts criticize the lack of a “articulated” containment plan to address the ecological crisis.
