What for a long time it seemed like we would not see is now here. In 2010, Steve Jobs said that a laptop with a touch screen was ‘ergonomically terrible’. In 2012, his successor Tim Cook stated about the convergence between laptops and tablets that ‘you can combine a toaster and a refrigerator, but the result will probably not be satisfactory for the user’. But now we are in 2026 and the great news of the new MacBook Pro that Apple has presented today is that they are the first Apple computers with a touch screen. What seemed like a bad idea to these two totems of the company, now contributes to turning it into ‘the best professional laptop in the world’in Apple’s words.
The protagonist is the screen PROLED XDRwhich uses technology Tandem OLED. That is, it incorporates two layers of pixels that emit light and work together to offer more brightness. Reaches peaks of 2,000 nits both in SDR as in HDRa refresh rate of up to 120Hz and a contrast of 10,000,000:1.
The touch sensor is built directly into the panel, instead of overlaid as an additional layerwhich Apple says reduces latency. To illustrate the usefulness of the touch screen, in addition to tasks such as scrolling a web page or enlarging a photo, Apple proposes examples such as testing applications of iOS and iPadOS directly on the screen or play virtual instruments. Apple applications are adapted to touch control.
The 14-inch model reduces its thickness in half a millimeter and the 16 in almost a millimeterto stay at a weight of 1.38 and 1.82 kilosrespectively. The frames are narrowed allowing the largest screen to grow slightly to the 16.3 inches and the little one goes up to 14.2 inches. He also returns illuminated Apple logo on the cover.
Inside they incorporate chips M5 Pro either M5Max. Apple announces up to 24 hours of autonomy and a upgraded six-speaker system which, according to the company, offers 50% deeper bass and greater clarity. Another novelty is the Dynamic Islandwhich allows you to view live activities and control functions such as music playback.

In Spain, the versions with M5 Pro start from 3,349 euros for the 14-inch model and 3,949 euros for the 16. With M5 Max, prices start at 5,249 and €5,649respectively. They can be reserved from today and will be available on November 6.
They are not the only MacBook Pros that enter Apple’s catalog. The company announced yesterday, before the ‘Pro and Tell’ event this Wednesday, a renewal of the 14-inch model with M6 chip, but without touch control. Keep the screen Liquid Retina XDR already known, its price starts at 2,329 euros and will begin to be delivered on November 6.
The MacBook Pros complete a week of news that has also included a ipad mini with OLED screen 8.5 inches and chip A20 Profrom 749 euros with wifi or €919 with mobile connectivity, and the new iMac with M6from 1,819 euroseither €2,019 for configuration with 12-core CPU and GPU. These will also go on sale on November 6th.
