The name of Mehdi Hijaouy has gained prominence in recent days for its alleged connection with Jabarootthe hacker group that has spread sensitive information related to Morocco. A connection that, for the moment, moves in the field of information from intelligence sources and that has not been publicly accredited.
Hijaouy is a Moroccan citizen and also has German nationality. For years he was part of the Moroccan security apparatus and came to occupy a position of responsibility within the General Directorate of Studies and Documentation (DGED), the agency in charge of the country’s foreign intelligence.
His position within the secret services was especially relevant. The information available places him as former number two or “general controller” of the DGED and closely linked professionally to Yassine Mansourihead of Moroccan foreign intelligence.
From Moroccan intelligence to leave the country
His career within the security apparatus ended up deteriorating. Around 2014 he would have fallen into disgrace after an internal confrontation with Abdellatif Hammouchiresponsible for the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), dedicated to internal intelligence.
