The entity San Juan Bay Estuary (Estuary) announced this Saturday the start of the Estuaries Week, and invited citizens to participate in the 18 events – in seven days – that he managed to align to highlight the importance of these ecosystems and their conservation.
Brenda Torres Barreto reported that, at the national level – including Puerto Rico –, estuarine ecosystems have their week, from September 19 to 26. Every day, he added, he will honor its importance for a sustainable future through events for citizens, from children to adults.
According to Torres Barreto, Estuario “managed to line up” 18 events, in seven days, among which were explorations through the waters of the Condado Lagooncoastal cleanups and training seminars as citizen scientists. “Roam through the Estuary”, for example, will take place tomorrow, Sunday, September 20, starting at 9:00 am, in several locations in Laguna del Condado, located in Jaime Benítez Park, San Juan Bay Marina and the Ashford Laguna parking lot dock.
“Estuaries are complex and vulnerable. These ecosystems are recreated between the mainland and the coast. Therefore, the activity we carry out in our daily life, work and commerce has a direct impact on the water quality”he said, in a press release.
“With one week to raise awareness, we fell short; however, I take advantage of it to call for action from everyone – government and private sector – towards the conservation of these water systems,” he added.
Torres Barreto commented that Estuary Week will also feature workshops, educational fairs, field experiences, educational tours and pilates, among other activities.
