The Traffic Group of the Civil Guard seeks to reinforce its operations at the beginning of the holiday season, when road trips increase. To do this, the unit will incorporate about thirty new camouflaged motorcycles with which they intend to patrol the areas that concentrate a greater number of vehicles. These motorcycles will not present the usual markings, although the agents who drive them will wear uniforms to be able to hunt down the drivers that directly violate traffic and road safety regulations.
The Traffic unit of the Civil Guard announced its intention to increase its fleet of vehicles a few months ago. Although the initial intention was to acquire motorcycles brands not associated with law enforcement of the State, theThe selected ones were some BMW motorcycles with large displacement. A selection caused by the economic offer that the company offered for the purchase of each unit, saving several thousand euros compared to offers from other companies.
The Traffic Group of the Civil Guard seeks to reinforce surveillance of motorcyclists
These motorcycles will not only serve control drivers of cars, but also of motorcycles, due to the high number of accidents that occur each year. According to data provided by the General Directorate of Traffic, in 2025 Motorcycle drivers were the second group with the highest number of fatal accidentswith 304. Likewise, six out of every ten motorcycle accidents are caused by other vehicles. Therefore, the Traffic Group seeks to reinforce surveillance to try to lower these figures.
Before the arrival of these new vehicles, the Civil Guard was limited to patrolling the roads of the Valencian Community, Andalusia, Castilla y León, Galicia, the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands in search of motorcycle drivers who failed to comply with traffic regulations. But thanks to this new addition, They will be able to expand their area of action to all those areas that present large concentrations of vehicles or danger on their routes. Although They will not be able to operate in the Basque Country, Catalonia or Navarraas happens with the DGT, since it is the community that has the powers to do so.
Civil Guard agents will wear their uniform to be able to fine offenders directly
Another novelty is that, despite being camouflaged vehicles, the drivers of these new motorcycles They will wear the Civil Guard uniform. Although it may seem that this fact will interfere with the effectiveness of capturing infractions, it will allow the agents to request the driver’s stop and put the fine directly. Something that will speed up a process for which, previously, they needed to tell their colleagues that they were driving a patrol car in order to fine the offender.
On the other hand, the fact that the agents are wearing their uniform will also cause a feeling of constant surveillance between drivers. With this feeling, the Traffic Group seeks reduce the number of violations and improve road safety. Above all, in actions such as leaving the road, which account for three out of every four accidents that occur on one-way roads.
