Just over a hundred intermediate school girls completed the program Triumphal seedsof the organization Puerto Rico Science (Sciencepr), a cycle of workshops and educational activities throughout the last academic year, focused on the disciplines of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (Stemin English).
From the group of 101 girls who graduated from the program, 85 were distinguished as “Stem ambassadors”, by completing their dissemination projects and reaching about 19,452 people in their school environment and communitiesSciencepron detailed in a press release. The graduation activity was held this Saturday at the theater of the Puerto Rico Polytechnic Universityin Hato Rey, with a ceremony that included the investiture in Bata Blanca that characterizes professionals in the field of science and that had the special participation of the journalist Grenda Riveragodmother of triumph seeds.
“In the Semillas de Triunfo program, we sow the seed of knowledge in every girl who participates, with the vision that they discover in the Stem disciplines a way for their academic and professional growth. Our purpose is that they become scientific leaders within their communities. Between August 2024 and May of this year, the seventh to ninth grade girls participated in leadership skills workshops, carried out scientific experiments and received talks with scientific leaders from the industry. In addition, they received mentoring sessions with hundreds of women in Stem and volunteer mentors, in person and virtual, among which a group of 20 ex -alumni of triumph seeds stand out.
Over the past decade, Semillas de Triunfo has trained some 690 girls from all over Puerto Rico, which, in turn, have reached more than 118,000 people through these projects, said SciencePR.
Some of the outstanding scientific dissemination projects included “We are butterflies”of Amira Figueroa Attiyewhich addressed anxiety in young people through educational videos, interviews with professionals and interactive activities. Meanwhile, “Artificial intelligence in veterinary medicine”of Anna Isabelle Berrios Vélezaddressed the use of artificial intelligence in the diagnosis and animal care, including visits to clinics and development of a case study.
Triunfo seeds, which also impacts intermediate school students through views and online talks, has the support of entities such as Fundación Amgen, Abbvie, Boston Scientific, Ford, Banco Popular de PR Foundation, Eli Lilly, Johnson & Johnson, Eaton, Viatris, University of Puerto Rico Recintes de Mayagüez and Humacao, Ponce Health University “Lito” Peña Plaza and Yale University.
SciencePR invited girls interested in participating in the program in 2025-2026 to request through their online portal, accessible through This link. For the incoming edition, up to 120 students residing in Puerto Rico are expected to be selected.
