New US precision strike ballistic missile that has seen combat for the first time in Iran

USA has used its new ballistic missile for the first time PrSM in the operation ‘Epic Fury’ which started, together with Israellast Saturday against Iran. He Precision Strike Missile (Precision Strike Missile) is a short-range missile that entered service two years ago and whose launch can be seen in the images that the Central Command (CENTCOM) of the United States has shared about the first hours of the attack on the ayatollahs’ regime.

In them you can see the PrSM being fired from a M142 HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System). Its reach is much greater than that of the ATACMS (Army Tactical Missile System) that can be used from the same platform.

The video also shows a HIMARS launcher equipped with what looks like a two-cell ammo containerwhich fits with the design of the PrSM. The M142 HIMARS on wheels and the M270 MLRS (Multiple Launch Rocket System) on caterpillars they use containers standardized. Each container can be loaded with a single ATACMS missile or six 227 mm MLRS/GMLRS rockets or two PrSMexplains the defense media The War Zone. While HIMARS only supports one container, MLRS uses two.

The CENTCOM footage included more moments of HIMARS firing short-range ballistic missiles. Some of the material could show releases of both PrSM and ATACMS.

It remains unclear where the PrSM or ATACMS were launched from during the attacks on Iran. However, the approximately doubled scope of the PrSM It would significantly expand the number of targets that US forces could threaten throughout the region.

New generation attack missile

Developed by Lockheed Martinthe PrSM is a weapons system earth-earth next generation designed to enhance deterrence and provide advanced capabilities to neutralize, suppress and destroy long range targets.

The missile measures 396cm in length and 43cm in diameter and incorporates a modular and open systems architecture designed to facilitate integration and future improvements. Compared to the ATACMS, it offers double the load capacity, with two missiles per launch container.

The PrSM provides a substantial increase in reach. The variant Increment 1 has demonstrated the ability to attack some 500km and future improvements aim to 650 km or more. A version with an even greater range of 1,000 km, Increment 3. In comparison, ATACMS achieves 300 km.

The PrSM Increment 1 uses a GPS-assisted inertial navigation system, with a CEP (Circular Error Probable or Circular Error Probable, its precision) below one metermaking it very effective against high value stationary targets. It uses a high-explosive unitary warhead optimized for destroy bunkers, radars and air defense systemswhose size is not public. The complete missile, which penetrates deeply before detonating, weighs approximately 816kg.

An anti-ship variant, known as Increment 2. This version incorporates a multimodal terminal seeker that combines a passive radiofrequency seeker and another infrared imaging seeker, allowing attack mobile targets both on land and at seaaccording to TWZ.
