The Society of Ludic Thought, enlightened and pro-Hispanic, which I have presided over for more than twenty years, we meet from time to time, at the Génova Financial Club the last time, was on November 20, to express our great appreciation to Marcelo Gullo, in tribute to his important work as a disseminator of the History of Spanish America.
For some time now, the feeling of Latin American fraternity has been strengthening with personalities like Gullo and also Pablo Victoria, who left us a few months ago. Colombian, and above all a supporter of the work of Blas de Lezo in the defense of Spanish America, for the siege that the vain Admiral Vernon, finally defeated, placed in Cartagena de Indias (1741) in front of a British fleet with more ships and more human resources than the “Invincible” of 1588.
We also want to evoke the figure of Elvira Roca Barea, with her two books “Imperiophobia and Black Legend”, and “Fracasología. “Spain and its elites”.
Gullo’s written work is presented with three titles: “Motherland. Dismantling the black legend from Bartolomé de las Casas to Catalan separatism” (prologue by Alfonso Guerra); “Nothing to apologize for. The importance of the Spanish legacy in the face of the atrocities committed by the enemies of Spain” (prologue by Carmen Iglesias); “What America Owes to Spain: The Spanish Legacy in the New World.”
Marcelo was born in Rosario, Argentina, in 1963. He has a doctorate in political science from the University of Salvador, a master’s degree in international relations from the University of Geneva, and a graduate from the Diplomatic School of Madrid (where he was my student). He was a disciple of the great Brazilian political scientist Helio Jaguaribe (of the Club of Rome, where he and the undersigned coincided).
Don’t stop reading Gullo. He deserves it, and a lot.
