lower impact and more efficiency

Wind repowering involves the replacement of existing wind turbines with more modern, efficient and more unitary power and implies the technological renewal of the current generation park.

This project is a key commitment to Naturgy’s renewable growth in Galicia, where it has 18 wind farms and where, also, the company was a pioneer in repowering in the Cape Villano Park, Camariñas. By increasing the production of clean energy with less wind turbines, more modern and efficient, the visual impact and coexistence with the local communities with which the company maintains a relationship of more than 25 years is minimized.

Galicia is a strategic region for Naturgy, both for its wind potential and for the consolidated link with the territory, in which the company continues to bet on the development of renewable projects that contribute to the energy transition

Within its growth strategy to renewable generation, Naturgy promotes the repowering projects of three of their wind farms in Galicia, Monte Redondo (Vimianzo), Novo (Narón and Valdoviño) and Somozas (As Somozas), operations since the years 2002, 2000 and 2002, respectively. Actions that suppose a joint investment of 150 million euros and already have the favorable environmental impact declaration and administrative construction authorization.

The culmination of these three projects will mean the replacement of 172 wind turbines by 28, maintaining in all cases the current powers: 49.5 MW of Monte Redondo; 49.67 in Somozas and 18.75 MW of Novo.

Commitment to the territory

Naturgy maintains a strong commitment to the territory and bases its wind development on being one more on the areas where the projects are located, through their economic and social integration. Naturgy’s social relationship model is committed to communication equally with the residents of the territory to create opportunities that generate shared value in the community.

This link begins during the processing phase, in which the company shares the most relevant milestones with the municipalities involved, and is permanently ready to provide information and clarify doubts of both the administrations and the neighbors themselves. Naturgy designs its wind projects following the strictest environmental and patrimonial criteria, both from the point of view of the regulations, and from respect for the preservation of the environment in which it is implanted.

Actor in the transition Energy

Naturgy maintains its commitment to the energy transition and the development of renewable projects, with 7.3 GW of installed capacity internationally. The company allocated 926 million euros in 2024 to put 842 MW of new renewable capacity. In its new strategic plan to 2027 it undertakes to increase its renewable operational capacity more than 30%.
