LA RAZÓN celebrates the 1st ESG Forum on the environment, governance and social responsibility

Behind the acronym ESG hide those purposes of companies' daily work that transcend purely economic values. The E in Environment refers to interest in the Environment, and to the study, for example, of the carbon footprint of one's activity or how to minimize the impact on the natural environment. Social aspects focus on issues such as labor rights or respect for human rights throughout the company's value chain, which includes its suppliers. Regarding governance, it is about analyzing the good governance of corporations, which is materialized in details such as transparency or non-misleading advertising.

It is these three ESG aspects that really make any company sustainable, also on an economic level because they increasingly affect the bottom line.

These criteria, which may seem a priori more intangible than the pure economic balance, can be measured within and, in fact, are measured because they have become something so important to take into account in the development of business activity that they have a direct impact on the ability of any firm to receive financing. Nor should we forget that they are the values that currently support the reputation of companies in the eyes of their interest groups: from governments to consumers.

Studying them within the company itself also helps boards of directors to make more accurate decisions in harmony with the Sustainable Development Goals set by the UN for 2030.

Topics to talk about:

  • From CSR or ESG.
  • Why all companies should have this good governance policy.
  • The SDGs and their importance in business development.
  • Greenwashing.
  • Working with purpose and how young people increasingly demand this.
  • Energy efficiency and diversity, why they are the aspects on which companies work the most in their ESG.
  • How to measure these purposes and their impact.
  • Measures taken, if sufficient (for example, planting trees to neutralize emissions versus not emitting them).
  • The role of Spain.
  • The generation of renewables in Spain.
  • Why you have to be sustainable…
