The day arrived. Today, Sunday, October 12, 2025, the National Holiday of Hispanic Heritage Day will be celebrated and the classic military parade that has been celebrated for so many years in Madrid will take place, right in front of the Royal Palace and the Plaza de la Armería, presided over by the Kings of Spain. It was considered as a festive day for all Spaniards in 1980a year in which cultural and linguistic ties were strengthened. On October 12, 2024, the general secretary of Junts (JxCat), Jordi Turullshowed his thoughts on the celebration of Hispanic Heritage Day rejecting it completely. Both its emergence and its annual celebration have been, in their own words, “at the stroke of genocide”implying that this National Holiday should never take place again.
Social networks, a way through which everyone can offer their points of view, witnessed the words that Turull shared on his X profile, formerly known as Twitter: “On October 12, there is nothing to celebrate and much to claim and denounce about a ‘Hispanidad’ that has made its way and has maintained itself in so many places through genocide, imposition and/or repression”he wrote.

In his opinion, during that same day, the secretary general made another publication on the same social network in which He gave more importance to other chores rather than attending the Armed Forces parade which was going to take place during the morning of that Saturday; because of the rain, the event did not take place as scheduled.
“Today, an intense day. Meetings and gatherings starting in Cabrera de Mar, continuing in Santa Perpètua de Mogoda and ending in the afternoon in Tortosa in various events organized by JxCat”Turull shared with the aim of reflecting that he had other tasks to do and of greater importance.

For its part, Another political figure also of Catalan origin who was very prominent during that day in 2024 was the president of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa.
