Bright meteor illuminated the sky of Puerto Rico during the afternoon

In a week marked by rain events, The sky cleared a little this Wednesday and that brief rest allowed the temporary sighting of a bright meteor, whose trail was seen during the sunset.

The Caribbean Astronomy Society (SAC) indicated, in written statements, that the fleeting trace of the celestial body was captured at 6:15 pm. At that time, there was still daylight, so, the entity highlighted, the meteor was extremely bright.

“We received reports indicating that (the meteor) was seen looking in the southeast direction, and the testimonies were from various towns, so that it was visible from the entire Island,” said Nelson Ortega, vice president of the organization, in the letter.

For his part, the SAC scientific communicator, Eddie Irizarrynoted that the trajectory of the celestial object is not related to any meteor shower. “It was a sporadic one and most likely caused by a small space rock disintegrating through the atmosphere”he explained.

The images obtained by the SAC showed that, despite being a daytime meteor, it left a visible line in its path.

Irizarry clarified that, if any fragment reached the surface, it must have occurred over the sea, to the southeast of the island.

The wake caused by the meteor occurred two days before another significant astronomical event begins: lthe fourth and last supermoon of the year. This phenomenon can be seen this Friday from Puerto Rico. Although the supermoon will be visible throughout the night, The best time to appreciate it will be between 5:37 pm and 6:30 pm
