A website that tells you what an AI knows about you from a photo

There are many applications to search for photos on the internet (Google Reverse is an example) and there are more and more that allow us to create images from scratch based on instructions in an AI. And it is precisely It is artificial intelligence that gives a twist to our images: it does detective work on them.

The idea comes from an initiative by a former Google engineer, Vishnu Mohandas, who seeks to raise awareness about privacy problems on the Internet and to do so he has found a very interesting strategy. Mohandas has created a website (Theyseeyourphotoso They see your photos), which uses “the Google Vision API to extract the story behind a photograph.” To test its operation we have uploaded our own image. And these are the conclusions of the AI.

This is what AI knows about youTheyseeyourphotosTheyseeyourphotos

“The man appears to be middle-aged, with a clean-shaven head and a graying beard. He is likely of European descent. He appears relaxed and approachable, with a subtle and pleasant expression. Their clothing suggests a casual and comfortable lifestyle. It is difficult to determine his financial situation from the image alone, but his clothing indicates that he is middle class. The photo appears to have been taken outdoors on a day with natural light. “The quality suggests it was taken with a high-resolution digital camera or smartphone camera.”

As it is an image that we have uploaded from the computer and not directly from the mobile, lThe AI did not have access to metadata, such as phone make and model or location. But it can do it if we use it directly from our mobile.

Mohandas’ purpose with this website is to warn about the lack of privacy and the risks of publishing images indiscriminately on social networks. In fact, he currently works with Ente, a company that offers an image hosting service and acts as a safe deposit box so that companies in the sector do not use our photographs to train their AI models.

Although the website is interesting, its potential is still limited. And we have verified this by uploading another image, this one created using an AI. The website could not distinguish that it was a fake image and treated it as a real one. In fact, it gave details of what type of camera could have taken it. But it is only the beginning of this type of technology.
