There are projects that, although they begin in a homemade way and without many aspirations, over time can become a positive change for the community. Whether motivated by a school project, like the case of the teenager who dug a pond in her garden, or on her own initiative, these small acts are what end up become unforgettable childhood anecdotes.
This is the case of Grace Hendrian, a young American who decided, at just 6 years old, to set up a charity lemonade stand. The goal of their small project was to raise $10 and donate it to those who needed it most. However, soon the initiative began to gain support from the community, reaching a goal of $55,000 that went to the Salvation Army.
It all started in 2019, when little Grace, just 6 years old, had an idea to help the members of her community: set up a charity lemonade stand and raise $10. An idea that was very well received by his parents, Kellea and Adam Hendrian, who They decided to encourage their daughter and make the goal add a zero to the amount. The new goal was 100 dollars.
The $55,000 raised was donated to charitable causes
However, reality far exceeded the expectations of the Hendrian family, since their neighbors, upon observing the initiative, decided to collaborate with the girls’ small venture. A year later, the booth raised $1,000, WGEM News reported. An amount that was donated to the Salvation Army and that served to provide 400 meals to those who needed them most.
Seeing the success of the lemonade stand, Grace decided to continue with her project and, in 2021, her little sister June decided to join the cause. In total, their small business was active for 7 years, in which they managed to raise and donate the total sum of $55,000, that is, 48,602 euros approximately. An amount that was allocated to different programs such as help against hunger or homelessness.
As young Grace explained to the North American network, her neighbors, in addition to collaborating, were enthusiastic about her initiative. “People kept contacting my mom and saying, ‘I wish my kids could do that,’ and stuff like that. So, a couple of years ago, We decided to have the kids come set up other stands in Quincy“he assured.
An initiative that has motivated other children
Thanks to this, more and more young people decide to follow their example and set up different positions within the North American state of Missouri. In total, fourteen other ventures have begun to collaborate with both the Hendrian sisters and the Salvation Army, allocating the proceeds to its different community aid programsas the chain explains.
Likewise, they have received the support and recognition of the Salvation Army itself, even naming them Volunteers of the Year in 2022 for the Quincy area. As explained by the Command’s development director for that area, Matt Schmidt, the donations had demonstrated the effectiveness of the efforts of both the community and the sisters, proving that small projects can make a big difference.
However, this year 2026 has been the last year in which the Hendrian sisters will work at their charity lemonade stand. The young Grace and June, 13 and 10 years old respectively, have decided to close this stage to make way for other children who want to carry out an initiative of this type. “It’s a bittersweet feeling. We’ve put a lot of work and effort into it over the last few years… But it has already completed its cycle and we are ready to pass it on to someone else.“, they explained to the North American network.
