A bug in the application Messages of Google is doing that old messages appear in conversations with other contacts and end up being sent to the wrong people. Google recognized the problem on September 2 and has started to deploy a solution gradually. According to the company, it will be available to all users over the next few weeks.
The first complaints began appearing on Reddit in July and describe how texts from conversations held months ago mix with current ones. The testimonies collect both messages that are sent to contacts other than their original recipients like others that appear attributed to people who did not write them.
‘For example, maybe a year ago I had a conversation with person A. Now I’m talking to person B and the phone sends a message that person A sent me, so it looks like I’m the one sending that message to person B right now‘, explained one user.
The same person reported another situation in which the identity of the person who had apparently sent the text changed. ‘I also had a conversation with person C about a year and a half ago. It may be now talking to person D and it seems that he is sending me a message that I received from person C a year and a half ago‘.
Another user claimed that he wrote an SMS and pressed send, but the recipient instead received an old message from another conversation while a third pointed out that, When sending a photo, Messages added a text recovered from another chat.
The problem seems to affect both messages RCS like the SMS and MMS. It is not limited to mobile phones either. Pixelsince cases have been reported on other phones that use Google Messages. Similar testimonies have continued to appear on Reddit in recent days.
