Spain is preparing for a historic day with the solar eclipse this Wednesday, August 12. According to the latest prediction of the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), The weather will be stable, hot and with clear skies in most of the country. However, the presence of low clouds and evolving cloudiness in some areas could make it difficult to observe the astronomical phenomenon in some regions.
The areas with the highest risk of clouds during the eclipse
The AEMET spokesperson, Ruben del Campodetails that the cloudiness of the day will be concentrated mainly in the Cantabrian stripwhere cloudy skies or abundant low clouds are expected.
They will also form evolution clouds in the Pyrenees and in the mountainous areas of the north and east of the peninsula, with some possible isolated storms in the eastern Pyrenees and in the Betic System.
Added to these areas are the southern coast of Andalusia due to the presence of clouds on the Andalusian Mediterranean coast, some haze in the southern half and the northern area of the Canary Islands, which will maintain cloudy skies at the low levels of the islands with more relief. Extreme heat and impact of the eclipse on thermometers
The day of the eclipse will be marked by a suffocating atmosphere in almost the entire territory. Records of 38 to 40 degrees in the northeast, center, south of the peninsula and Mallorca, and even the 40 degrees in the valleys of Ebro, Tajo, Guadiana and Guadalquivir.
By the time the eclipse occurs, temperatures will have dropped between 2 and 5 degrees with respect to the maximums expected for the day. However, the AEMET clarifies that the direct effect of the solar penumbra on the thermometers during the minute of duration will be practically imperceptible.
It will be a day of very high or extreme fire hazard in most of the territory, especially in the interior of Galicia, Castilla y León, northern Aragon and Catalonia, and in isolated areas of the southern half.
Evolution of the weather for the rest of the week
