Apple is considering four designs for its smart glasses

Opening a market niche with a new type of consumer technological device is very difficult, but Goal seems to have achieved it with its smart glasses launched in partnership with Ray-Ban and Oakley. You don’t want to miss that opportunity. Applewhich plans to enter this market at the beginning of 2027 and is evaluating various frame styles for its proposal.

According to reports Mark Gurman on Bloomberg, Apple will debut in this category with glasses without screenwhose internal codename is N50within its division Vision Products Group.

Like Meta, Apple is developing glasses for daily usewith functions such as capturing photos and videos, synchronizing with a smartphone, managing phone calls and interacting without using your hands using the voice assistant, among others. While the first uses Meta AI as a voice assistant, Apple is turning to a version of Siri much improved that will come with iOS 27.

The glasses are not the only wearable that Apple prepares. Also works in new AirPods and in a pendant, both with camerasdesigned to obtain computer vision and thus Siri and Apple Intelligence capture the user’s environment and offer features such as turn-by-turn map directions and visual reminders.

According to employees working on this project, Apple’s plan to surpass its competitors involves very close integration of the glasses with the iPhone and a higher quality construction. The technology giant is also looking to take charge of the design of the glasses, instead of turning to a partner manufacturer like Meta does, which uses EssilorLuxottica SAowner of the Ray-Ban and Oakley brands, for the frames.

Some of the design, feature and color options being tested include:

  • A large rectangular frame, similar to those Ray-Ban Wayfarer.
  • A more stylized rectangular design, like the one worn by Apple CEO Tim Cook.
  • Larger oval or circular frames.
  • A smaller, more refined oval or circular option.
  • Vertically oriented oval lenses for the camera system.
  • Color options include black, ocean blue and light brown.
  • It is used high-end acetate material to offer a more luxurious feel.

Can Apple get ahead of Meta in the smart glasses sector? Time will tell, but the Cupertino company is in a good position to achieve this thanks to the fact that uses its own chips, takes care of all the design, has an extensive commercial network and maintains deep integration with the iPhone.
