This is the VAMTAC, the armored vehicle that Spain will send to Ukraine

Recently, the Spanish Ministry of Defense has confirmedthe delivery of VAMTAC multipurpose armored vehicles to support Ukraine’s military efforts. Developed by the Spanish company Urovesa 15 years after the Humvee, the VAMTAC comes in different types, including ambulances, anti-tank and anti-aircraft models, and is also adapted for reconnaissance and support functions.

Among its capabilities are its high speed (It can reach 135 km/h and is capable of tackling steep slopes. thanks to a wide angle of attack of 74º, four-wheel drive and its NBC (Nuclear, Biological and Chemical) recognition capacity.

Added to this is ballistic protection of up to level 3 equipped with interior Spall-linersa heavy anti-fragmentation coating used to protect military vehicles from critical damage caused by shrapnel. They are usually made of composite materials.

In general, military vehicles have different types of anti-shard coatings depending on their purpose and level of protection. The most common types of armored vehicle models include anti-splinter screens and curtains, armor plates and other armored vehicle designs. The VAMTAC includes most of them along with ceramic outer plates.

It also adds protection against mines and explosive charges (thanks to an anti-deformation structure and shock wave absorption elements), thermal and acoustic insulation, remote control weapons station, anti-roll bars, run-flat wheels (they have reinforced sidewalls to support the weight of the car in case of pressure loss), automatic regulation of tire pressure and a fire fighting system.

Regarding weapons, it allows mounts for guns up to 30 mminhibitors and even an anti-aircraft defense system developed by the Spanish company Thales.
