Rubén del Campo, spokesperson for the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), announced this Thursday that Winter is expected to be warmer than usual and less rainyafter an autumn that has been ranked as the seventh wettest of the 21st century and the twentieth since 1961.

Del Campo has highlighted that it is beginning to be a “classic” pattern in meteorology that the seasons are one after another warmer than normal. Thus, it indicates that the most probable scenario for the next three winter months is higher than normal temperatures throughout Spain, especially in the northwest and south of the peninsula and in both archipelagoss. “It will be a season in which anticyclones will predominate over storms”Del Campo specified.

As for the precipitation, the most likely context points to a 40-50% chance that winter will be less rainy than usual. However, Del Campo has stressed that “the uncertainties of the forecast are very high.” In the case of the eastern end of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands, the climatological data do not show a clear trend regarding rainfall.
