Visit of the Kings to Ceuta, live: last minute of Felipe VI and Letizia, migratory crisis and elections of 29N

The Kings Felipe VI and Letizia visited Ceuta this Tuesday for the first time since they acceded to the throne in 2014. A trip that occurred two and a half months after the migratory assault on this autonomous city took place and in the middle of the electoral campaign.

The first event took place in the Ceuta City Councilwhere the monarchs were received by the local authorities. Here, they held a meeting with representatives of Ceuta society. They also held a meeting with members of the city’s Government Council.

In the afternoon, Felipe VI and Letizia visited the Vicente Aleixandre school and participated in a tribute to those who died at sea on July 30 and 31. The event was held in the Muslim cemetery of Sidi Embarek, one of the places linked to the consequences of the migration crisis.

The visit concluded with a meeting with representatives of Ceuta society in which The King spoke a few words in defense of the Spanishness of Ceuta and its return to normality. The monarchs will spend the night in Ceuta and on Wednesday they will continue their official trip to Melilla, in a trip of special institutional relevance due to the diplomatic history with Morocco.

The trip also coincided with the pre-campaign for the general elections of November 29. The parties maintain their differences on the management of the immigration crisis and housing policies, while preparations for the electoral event and negotiations to close the candidacies continue.
