Vicente Vallés, devastating with the vote on the Maricarmen decree: “In Moncloa they are already very used to living on the wire. This has been the case for years”

Vicente Valles has focused on the political consequences of the vote of the housing decrees. On the eve of his debate in Congress, the journalist warned that the result will have special weight for the Government of Pedro Sanchezin full citizen mobilization for rents and evictions.

“In Moncloa they are already very used to living on the wire. This has been the case for years,” said the presenter. A reflection on the dependence of the Executive on parliamentary agreements that, on this occasion, was accompanied by a forecast on the scope of the day.

“But tomorrow’s vote on the housing decrees, whatever its outcome, will be remembered as one of the key moments of this legislature”added Vallés.

A vote with the announced rejection of Junts

The scenario that the journalist was referring to arrives this Friday October 2 to Congress. The Government maintains the vote on the two texts approved this week, despite the fact that Junts has announced its rejection and has asked them to withdraw.

As reported by Europa Press, the independence party will present its own proposal to serve as a starting point for a new negotiation. The Executive, however, has decided to go ahead and submit both decrees to the discretion of the Chamber.

Vallés’ statements focus attention on this difficulty in gathering support. His warning does not anticipate a concrete result. The journalist maintains that the vote will be relevant for the legislature whether the Government manages to carry out the measures or if it ends up suffering a parliamentary defeat.

Two different decrees and supports

Although public debate has grouped them under the name of “Maricarmen decree”Congress will rule on two different texts. Each one must overcome their own vote and the positions of the parties do not necessarily coincide in both.

The first includes protection measures against the evictions of vulnerable people and the extension of certain rental contracts, among other actions. The second addresses the automatic renewal of contracts under certain conditions.

He PNV has announced its support for the first and its rejection of the second. Canfor its part, has confirmed that it will support both. Junts’ refusal complicates the Executive’s chances of gathering the necessary votes.

Pressure from the streets reaches Congress

The session is held with housing protests still active. The eviction of Maricarmen gave way to mobilizations and Puerta del Sol campingfrom which a response is demanded to the problems of access and permanence in a home.

Organizations for the right to housing have called for a rally in front of Congress to coincide with the debate. The decision of the deputies will also be the starting point for the groups to assess the continuity of the protests.

That is the context of Vallés’ warning. The Government comes to the vote with its decrees approved in the Council of Ministers, but with the announced rejection of a party whose votes it needs to overcome the parliamentary process.
