Uber will pay its drivers in the United States to train artificial intelligence models

Washington- Uber announced this Thursday that it wants to offer the possibility of generating additional sources of income to its drivers in USAso it will start a pilot program so that they can label data and train models of artificial intelligence while they are not behind the wheel.

The program was announced by the company’s CEO, Dara Khosrowshahi, at the Only on Uber conference in Washington.

Later, in a statement, Khosrowshahi explained that The pilot program, which is already underway in India, is the result of drivers’ interest in having additional sources of income while not transporting passengers.

Uber’s CEO said that the tasks, carried out through the company’s application, are “simple” and gave as an example “uploading photos to help train artificial intelligence models.”

Khosrowshahi announced other news with the goal of making Uber “the best platform for flexible work” with feedback from the company’s drivers and delivery people.

These new features include the incorporation starting Friday of a new “smarter” version of Rides Heatmap.a map that shows the areas of greatest demand and average waiting times, and a new Uber Pro program that in March 2026 will unify Uber Pro and Advantage Mode with four levels that will offer more rewards and better income depending on performance.

Another novelty is a trip delay guarantee whereby drivers will receive additional compensation if the trip exceeds the estimated duration by more than five minutes.

Regarding safety, Uber will expand to Baltimore, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, Seattle, Portland and Washington D.C. the option for Uber drivers to only accept requests from female passengers.
