Russia It seems to have a new laser weapon to counteract the drones of Ukraine. According to Russian military information channels on Telegram, Moscow has received and is using a laser weapons system from China on the battlefield. The statement is accompanied by a video that shows Russian Army staff operating the anti -Didish laser system from a vehicle. This is the first documented case of the use of a Chinese laser weapon by the Russian forces in the current war.
China has been developing and testing several laser weapons systems for anti -nesting operations. These systems can not only destroy drones, but are also designed to neutralize missiles, satellite networks and other attack or surveillance equipment.
The system provided by China is a Low altitude laser defense system (Lass, for its acronym in English) that is being used by The Nomad Special Forces Unitaccording to Russian media. It is also indicated that the Chinese armed police use the same system and that it has probably been developed by the Chinese Academy of Engineering Physics.
The video begins by showing the power of the anti -Didish laser system, first through the drilling of a metal plate in which it performs several holes. Then, a drone is seen on fire and turning without control after being reached by the laser and, then, a second drone being dejected with the same weapon. Subsequently, parts of damaged drones appear caused by the laser.
Russian forces have not revealed concrete details of the anti -Didish system or their abilities. Nor is it known how many laser systems China has delivered to Russia and in which areas they have been deployed.
SHEN NUNG
However, according to The War Zone specialized media, the system is quite similar to the SHEN NUNG (also called Shennong). TWZ adds that it is probably the same system that China recently supplied to Iran.
This weapon has been publicized assembled both in containers and in light tactical trucks 4 × 4 Dongfeng Mengshicalling SHEN Nung 5000 and 3000respectively.
Fabian Hinzassociate researcher of military and defense analysis at the International Institute of Strategic Studies, has also highlighted similarity. ‘Although the arrangement of the sensors seems to have been altered, the system observed in the Russian service is very similar to the Chinese antidron laser Shen Nung 3000/5000’has written in X.

Military Informant, the first telegram channel to publish the video, says it supposes A great improvement on previous designs of this type of weapons: ‘Previously, there was opinion in the national informative environment that combat lasers were useless and expensive toys. However, the new threats identified during the total invasion of Ukraine forced alternative counterattack methods. Thanks to the development of new technologies, Laser systems have become an effective tool for the destruction of Ukrainian non -manned aerial vehicles. It is expected that the issue of laser weapons development in Russia will receive a new impulse and the experience of using lasers as air defense weapons extends to the whole country ‘.
Laser -based weapons represent A low cost solution to reduce drones and its use is increasingly common in war conflicts. Whenever there is a reliable energy source, the weapons can shoot an unlimited number of times. In addition, the cost of destroying an enemy UAV It is drastically reduced with laser systemscompared to the use of missiles or drones.
