These will be the first phones to have Starlink, Elon Musk’s satellite internet

The technology of starlinkdeveloped by SpaceXwill come to mobile phones through a collaboration with T-Mobile in USA. This advance will allow devices to connect directly to satellites in low orbit, eliminating the need for traditional antennas and offering connectivity in even the most remote areas.

The initial phase of the service will be limited to customers of T-Mobile with postpaid voice plans and compatible mobile networks 4G and 5G. This includes a wide range of modern smartphones prepared to support this technology. Interested parties must register on a website enabled by T-Mobilealthough availability will be limited and not all applicants will be able to participate.

According to the company, ”the technology will be available in most outdoor areas where the sky can be seen,” offering connection in rural environments, mountains, deserts and other places with little or no traditional coverage.

The program, known as “Direct to Cell“, represents a significant advance, since it allows satellite connectivity to be integrated into current devices without requiring additional equipment. The initiative already has approval from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), although it faces technical challenges, such as the increase in satellite emission power to guarantee advanced functions such as real-time video calls.

This collaboration between SpaceX and T-Mobile could mark a milestone in mobile connectivity, and if the beta program in USA is successful, it could be replicated in other parts of the world in the future.
