Moscow – The Russian justice imposed a fine of 15,000 rubles ($179) on a woman who generated artificial intelligence (AI) the photo of a bear and scared the neighbors of his town, at a time when Russia is suffering an invasion of these animals and multiple attacks on humans have been reported.
As indicated on Telegram by the press service of the Courts of the Amur Region, a justice of the peace of the Magdaganinsky judicial district fined the woman for publishing the photo of the bear generated with a network on social networks.
The published image scared his neighbors, who requested help from the local police.
The court case indicates that last September the woman, a resident of Magdagachi, wanted to play a prank on her friend and, with the help of the ChatGPT network, generated a photo of a bear that was wandering through one of the streets of the town, after which she sent her the photo.
However, the prank was taken seriously by other people and the image went viral, prompting the police to receive multiple distress calls.
One of the local residents commented that after seeing the photo all day she did not dare leave her house to go shopping.
The information reached the local authority, which in turn called hunters and specialists to hunt down the animal.
After the incident, the woman called the police and confessed that the photo had been generated by AI. During the trial he admitted his responsibility and expressed his regret, explaining that he was just trying to joke.
The court considered his confession and repentance as mitigating factors, so it considerably lowered the amount of the fine, established by law at 30,000 rubles ($358), and did not confiscate the mobile phone on which he generated the photo.
This incident takes on greater relevance due to the large number of clashes between bears and humans during the last season, which has caused the death of at least 26 people since last March, with the Krasnoyarsk and Irkutsk regions being the most affected, with 7 victims in each.
Due to this, the Russian authorities launched a hunting campaign for these animals at the beginning of the month, within the framework of which 982 plantigrades have been killed in Krasnoyarsk alone.
