On Friday, September 4, Spain will face a day of intense heat, with maximums above 35 degrees in most of the interior of the peninsula. Lleida, Logroño and Zaragoza will reach 41 degrees, the highest value in the provincial table.
The rise will be especially visible in the eastern and northeastern thirdsthe Northern Plateau and the archipelagos, while the north of Galicia and the southwestern third will register decreases that may be notable. In the eastern Cantabrian Sea, the increase will also be notable.
The sky will start out slightly cloudy or clear in large areas, although low clouds will leave coastal mists and fogs in Galicia, Asturias, Alborán and the Strait. During the afternoon the cloudiness will increase and the change will be noticeable from the central hours.
Clouds and storms
The AEMET predicts that the approach of a dana from the southwest will change the appearance of the sky throughout the day. The increase in medium and high clouds will eventually leave cloudy skies in the western third and cloudy intervals in the rest. In that section, isolated showers or storms could appear in parts of the southwest and the Cantabrian area.
A similar situation will be repeated in the Canary Islands, with cloudy skies or intervals of medium and high clouds and a low probability of isolated showers on the summits. The AEMET prediction adds light haze in Alborán, the west of the peninsula and the east of the Canary Islands, so visibility may worsen in those sectors. The haze will add to the high cloudiness.
The wind will be weak in much of the Peninsula, with a predominance of the western and northern components. In the Mediterranean, the east and south directions will dominate, while the Strait will have moderate east and the Galician coasts, moderate northeast. In the Canary archipelago, the trade wind will blow with strong intervalsa detail that the AEMET maintains as the main wind singularity of the day.
Thermometers and minimums
The intense heat will be concentrated in the Ebro valley and the interior of the southern Atlantic slope. In addition to the 41 degrees of Lleida, Logroño and ZaragozaBadajoz, Córdoba, Jaén, Seville and Toledo will reach 40; Albacete, Cáceres, Ciudad Real, Cuenca, Granada, Huesca, Ourense, Pamplona, Zamora and other capitals will move between 38 and 39. The AEMET thus places the most intense episode far from the northern coasts.
Ávila, Burgos, Lugo, Palencia, Segovia, Soria, Valladolid and Vitoria-Gasteiz will also exceed 35 degrees, while Bilbao and León will remain at 35. The decrease will affect part of the southwest and the north of Galicia: Huelva will remain at 31, A Coruña at 24, Santander at 25 and Oviedo at 29. The contrast will be clearer between inland and coast.
The minimums will rise in the Canary Islands and in the northwest half of the peninsula, with few changes in the rest. There will be tropical nights in large areas of the southern half, the Mediterranean and the depressions of the northeast; in the Canary Islands and in the depressions of the southwest they may not drop below 25 degrees. The AEMET foresees that night rest will continue to be conditioned by the heat in the most exposed areas. Higher minimums will prolong the warm atmosphere.
