2024 has ended, and with it an intense meteorological year that has been marked by meteorological instabilitylike, of course, the great episode of torrential rains caused as a consequence of the ‘cold drop’ or DANA that hit the Valencian Community, and part of Castilla-La Mancha and Andalusia, during the past month of October and left more than 200 deaths.
In this way, the third day of 2025 will be marked, according to the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET)by a series of significant phenomena, among which the persistent, and locally “heavy” rainfallwith significant accumulations on the Galician Atlantic coast, in addition to winds with strong intervals on the coasts of Galicia and locally “icing, dense and persistent” fogs in valleys of the plateaus, the Ebro basin and depressions of the northeast.
General rise in temperatures
The AEMET predicts rising maximum temperatures in the Ebro Valley, where it is expected to be locally notable, as well as in the Cantabrian Sea, in the Northern Plateau, in Mediterranean environments and in the Canary archipelago, although with few changes in the rest of Spain.
For their part, it is expected that the Minimum temperatures continue this increasing trend in the northern half of the peninsulawhere they may be locally notable, and, again, without significant changes in the rest of Spain. The frosts, for their part, will lose extension and intensityalthough they will continue to affect the Cantabrian area, the Pyrenees, the Iberian region, the southeastern mountain ranges and the east of the plateaus.
The rainfall is arriving, which will spread across Spain in the coming days
For today’s day, a change in trend, with the approach of a storm and the arrival of Atlantic frontsleaving cloudy or overcast skies in the northern half of the peninsula, and rainfall affecting the Cantabrian Sea and Galicia. Thus, it is expected that these will be “persistent and with significant accumulations” on its eastern façade, all without ruling out that they will become “locally strong”.
For its part, rainfall will extend to northwest third and in the Pyrenees, without ruling them out in the rest of the Northern plateau and even in the Central System. In addition, there could also be some snowfall in mountain areas of the extreme north, with the elevation above 2,000 meters.
Nevertheless, No precipitation is expected in the rest of the Peninsula, nor in the Balearic Islands, where slightly cloudy skies or with intervals of high clouds will predominate. Yes indeed, low cloudiness expected morning in valleys of the plateaus and the northeast, as well as in the Strait, with freezing morning mists and fogs still being possible, although less dense and persistent than the previous days. In Canary IslandsFor their part, they are expected cloudy intervals with the possibility of some light precipitation in the western islands and calima in the eastern islands.
“Loose and moderate” winds
The State Meteorological Agency predicts that Winds from the west and southeast will prevail in the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, which, in general, will be “weak” in the interior of the peninsula and “moderate” on the coast, which is already intensifying in Galicia. For its part, in the Canary Islands winds are expected from the east and southeast, although “weak” in general.
