The spring truce that affected Spain during the week will be a memory far for the inhabitants of a good part of the country during the Sunday day.
The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has activated all surveillance mechanisms in anticipation of a weekend closing especially turbulent, marked by the explosive combination of a retreating cold front and the formation of low pressure over the waters of the Mediterranean.
This atmospheric configuration will not only color the skies with grey in the eastern half and the Balearic Islands, but will trigger an episode of precipitation which, according to the official prediction, could reach locally strong intensity and be accompanied by storm and hail at very specific points on the map.
The main focus of the meteorological adversity will be located on a strip that covers from Andalusia east to the coast Alicantepassing through the highlands of Murcia and Albacete.
In these areas, the afternoon showers could acquire a virulence unusual for the time, leaving significant accumulations of water in short intervals of time.
In parallel, the regions of the extreme north, especially the cantabrian cornice and Galiciathey will not get rid of umbrellas either, although there the nature of the rains will be somewhat more leisurely, without ruling out that some stormy core will sneak through the valleys.
For the highest peaks of the northern half, the forecast recovers the whiteness more typical of winter, with a level that will move between 800 and 1,100 meters, locally it can fall up to 600 meters and leaves significant thicknesses.
A mass of frigid air freezes northeast thermometers
If the rain will be protagonist visual of the day, the collapse of mercury will be the predominant physical sensation.
The AEMET warns of a decrease in maximum temperatures that will be generalized throughout the Peninsula and the Balearic archipelago, but that will reach the category of “extraordinary” in the northeast quadrant.
This qualification, reserved for anomalies very pronounced, implies that in provinces such as Zaragoza, Huesca, Lleida or the interior of Catalonia thermometers could reach up to twelve degrees less than the previous day.
The minimal will also accompany this trend downespecially as night falls on Sunday, leaving a frigid environment that will bring back weak frosts to the mountain systems of the northern half.
To complete this cocktail bleakthe wind will blow furiously in various parts of the territory. The prediction contemplates very strong gusts of westerly weather in the Strait, of gales in the Ebro valley and of north winds in the Ampurdán, without forgetting the intensity of the trade wind in Canary Islandswhere the archipelago will remain with cloudy skies and rain on the northern slopes.
Added to all this is the presence of haze in the eastern half of the peninsula, a suspended dust which, when mixed with the first drops, could lead to the characteristic and annoying mud on vehicles and terraces, although the tendency is for this cloud of dust to leave the area throughout the day.
