Tarantula, the armored vehicle that wants to replace the Humvee

MILDEF’s Tarantula 4×4 High Mobility Armored Vehicle (HMAV), developed by MILDEF Technologies Sdn. Bhd., has successfully passed multiple tests, and the Malaysian military has concluded that the vehicle meets all required technical specifications. This was confirmed by the Malaysian Defense Minister in a recent parliamentary session. The HMAV Tarantula, a product of local defense technology, underwent a series of evaluations to ensure that it meets the needs of the Malaysian Armed Forces (TDM).

Among the latest tests carried out are two linked to ballistics. The first, a ballistic test with live fire, was carried out at the Institute of Defense Technology in Bangkok (Thailand), while the second, an explosion and mine testwas carried out at the Scientific and Industrial Research Council in Pretoria (South Africa). Although the vehicle has shown promising results, it is still too early to confirm whether the Tarantula 4×4 will join the Malaysian Army fleet.
