Although most releases of Apple are announced in events broadcast over the Internet, there are times when this is not the case. This afternoon, without prior indications and through the classic press release, the company has announced a new iPad Minia device that the company had not renewed since 2021. It is not a deep renovation, the device does not bring any change in its design, but it is a much more powerful device than its predecessor.
The reason is in the new SoC that it uses to replace the A15 Bionic of his predecessor: A17 Pro. This processor will be familiar to iPhone users, since the company debuted it last year in the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Maxand now it’s available in a more affordable device. The A17 Pro offers, according to Apple’s numbers, a CPU with a 30% more performance, a GPU with a 25% more and one Neural Engine with double than in the A15 Bionic.
This is interesting because the seventh generation iPad Mini will be compatible with Apple Intelligence. So is the sixth-grade iPad Mini, but the difference in performance will be noticeable with these functions, especially regarding the Neural Engine. What is the problem for Spanish users and the rest of Europe? That Apple Intelligence, for the moment, we are not going to see it here. Apple announced a few months ago that its artificial intelligence features would not be available in the EU at launch with iOS 18.1 due to regulatory uncertainty, and that Work with the EU to solve it.
The design has not undergone any changes, beyond the new blue and purple colors which join the gray and white already present in the previous model. The screen is the same Liquid Retina IPS 8.3 inches with resolution of 1,448 x 2,226 pixels and maximum brightness of 500 nits. What it has gained is support for the new Apple Pencil Pro.
It has also improved in connectivity, now with Wi-Fi 6ewhich allows a higher connection speed to the router, and a port USB-C with specifications USB-3 and transmission speeds up to 10Gbps. The storage capacity starts from 128GBinstead of the 64 GB of the sixth generation iPad Mini, and reaches up to 512GB at its maximum setting.
And we come to the issue of price, which increases compared to the previous generation: €599 compared to €549 for the 2021 iPad Mini, both in their configuration with minimum storage. The complete price list, depending on whether you have a mobile connection and more or less GB of space, is as follows:
Model | Price (€) |
---|---|
Wi-Fi, 128GB | €599 |
Wi-Fi + eSim, 128GB | €769 |
