Sun and temperatures of 20 degrees in the north and south, a few days before Christmas

Wednesday will be marked by the predominance of the sun in much of Spain, except in Galicia, where the rains will be the protagonists. In the Canary Islands, the haze will persist, while thermometers will show a general rise, reaching or exceeding 20 degrees in the north and south of the peninsula, in a climate more typical of October than mid-December.

According to the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), temperatures will rise in much of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands, with decreases in the Canary Islands. The highest maximums will be recorded in Murcia (24 degrees), Alicante (23) and cities such as Granada, Málaga, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Santa Cruz de Tenerife (22). On the contrary, temperatures will be cooler in Logroño (11), León and Lleida (12), and Madrid (13).

In general, Temperatures will be between 5 and 10 degrees above usual on these dates, especially in the southern third and the northern interior of the peninsula.. In cities such as San Sebastián (20 degrees), Santander (19), Bilbao (19), Albacete and Zaragoza (18), thermometers will reflect autumn values, Servimedia reports.

The anticyclone will continue to dominate a large part of the country, with clear or slightly cloudy skies. Howeveran Atlantic front will bring cloudy skies and precipitation to the northwest of the peninsula, especially in western Galicia, where the rains could be intense and persistent. There could also be low clouds, mists and morning fogs in the northeast of the peninsula and the Northern Plateau.

In the Canary Islands, the weather will remain stable although with csignificant concentrations of haze. The winds will be from the south and southwest in the peninsula and the Balearic Islands, with strong intervals in Galicia and the Cantabrian area, while in the Canary Islands, winds from the east and southeast with moderate to strong gusts will predominate.

Rains and thermal collapse

The front will advance across the Peninsula on Thursday. It will rain mainly in the northern third and in the west, although it could also reach the central zone in a weak form. On the other hand, no rain is expected in either the peninsular Mediterranean or the Balearic Islands. It will snow in the northern mountains with a level that will drop from 2000 meters (m) to 1000 m at the end of the day. After the front passes, temperatures will drop sharply. There will still be haze in the Canary Islands, although it will subside.

Looking ahead to Friday and the weekend, anticyclonic weather is likely to prevail, with flows of cold winds from the north that will arrive loaded with moisture to the extreme north, where they will leave rain. In the rest, slightly cloudy skies will predominate, with a cold atmosphere and frost in much of the interior, which will be strong in mountain areas.
