Stop receiving calls from unknown numbers: this is what the National Police recommends

A famous monologist said, as a joke, that When I lost sight of my phone at home and couldn’t find it anywhere, I would simply wait for nap time, when I would regularly receive an advertising call. Perhaps it is a somewhat exaggerated assumption, but it serves to illustrate the feeling of ‘harassment’ or intrusion that someone can feel with this kind of insistent propaganda.

The truth is that, If you are not careful or managed correctly, you can end up receiving advertising calls or cyber scam attempts almost daily. At any working time, whether day or night, many people have to stop what they are doing to answer the phone that rings and discover that, once again, it is an unknown number from a company that wants to offer them something.

It is therefore essential to know how and who is given the privilege of knowing our personal telephone number since, if for some reason we are identified as a possible client (or victim), the inconvenience may end up occurring on a very recurring basis. Many times it is not enough to block unknown numbers, because calls continue to come from other similar terminals.

However, there are certain formulas that can be put into practice to avoid this type of ‘spam’ or advertising telephone ‘bombardment’, such as those that we will explain below. With a few simple adjustments, we can get rid of the leaden phone calls we receive every day for the sole purpose of sending us offers and promotions.

Stop receiving calls from unknown numbers: this is what the National Police recommends

Everyone has the right to privacy and rest, although we often see how this is interrupted with telemarketing. If someone tries to stop us on the street to offer us something, just avoid them or continue walking, but with calls it is different. Recently, The National Police (@policía) has shared a video on its social networks explaining how to get rid of annoying calls from unknown numbers.

To do this, the agents explain that there are mainly two possible options. The first is to go to ‘settings’ on our smartphone and, within the ‘phone’ section, select the ‘silence strangers’ option. This way, calls from numbers that we do not have saved in the phonebook will not make the cell phone ring, and will be sent directly to voicemail. They can be consulted in the list of ‘recent calls’, so that the user can check if it was an acquaintance who had not yet been added.

The Police also warned that, in the event that an emergency call needs to be made, there would be no problem. For security protocol, this function is deactivated for the next 24 hours from when this call occurs, allowing emergency services to communicate with us and silence them.

The second proposal that the agents shared is to download and use a mobile application specialized in “detecting unwanted calls”so that they automatically appear on the screen as ‘telephone sales’ or ‘spam’ when they try to contact us. On some occasions, the application itself will block the call automatically.

Besides, The National Police also assured that this type of telephone ‘spam’ can be dealt with manually, directly blocking the numbers. so that we know who to contact us to offer us advertising. This option, however, is not as effective as the others.since it requires that they have previously contacted us and does not prevent the same company from calling us from other terminals in the future.
