Spotify increases premium subscribers by 12% and reaches 678 million monthly active users

Spotify has registered a 12% increase in subscriptions to its premium version during the first quarter of 2025 that, with more than 5 million new subscribed users, has reached 268 million subscribers, in addition to having 678 million monthly active users. Technology has shared the results of its first quarter of 2025, in which it has stressed that it has exceeded the key metrics of the platform, reaching “the greatest net incorporation of subscribers in the first quarter” from its records in 2020, as well as an “record” operational income.

Specifically, Spotify has added 5 million new users signed to the premium version of the ‘app’ globally, adding 268 million users and translates into a 12 percent year -on -year increase. Following this line, the company has also reflected in its latest results the increase in the number of its monthly active users, where it has reached to gather 678 million active people, the equivalent of 10 percent more with respect to the same period of 2024.

As the music platform in ‘streaming’ has clarified in an X (old twitter) publication, from the expansion of the partners program, to the launch of new functions such as ‘Concerts near you’, the company has been working during the last months to “accelerate the value” of the ‘app’, as well as strengthen relations between artists, fans and creators. All this has been reflected in these financial results, in which it is seen that, as shared by the founder and executive director of Spotify, Daniel EK, in a statement in his blog, the interaction in the service remains high, while “the retention is solid”.

EK also pointed out that, in part, this is due to the ‘freemium’ model, with which users have the flexibility of staying on the platform “even in times of greater uncertainty.” “The short term can generate some noise, but we continue to trust the future and the direction we are taking is clearer than ever,” he said.
