The first winter storm of the season, which forced the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) to activate red warnings for snowfall between Saturday and Mondaythis Tuesday gives way to the cold with more than half of Spain below 10 degrees. Seven provinces on alert
This Tuesday, warnings were activated due to intense cold, due to the forecast that temperatures drop to around -6 degrees in areas of five provinces: Girona, Huesca and Navarra (Pyrenees); Barcelona (pre-Pyrenees) and Lleida (Pyrenees and Aran Valley). In general, the values will decrease slightly and there will be less than 10 degrees in the interior of the northern half, Castilla-La Mancha and the eastern interior of Andalusia, reports Servimedia. The coldest capitals will be Segovia (4 degrees at most); Ávila, Burgos and Teruel (5), and Palencia, Pamplona and Vitoria (6).
The unstable weather will continue in the north of the peninsula and the north of the Mediterranean area, with clouds and precipitation in the north of Galicia, the Cantabrian area, the north of the Iberian System, the Balearic Islands and the coasts of Barcelona, where the rains could be locally heavy. On the shores of the Mediterranean, the island of Mallorca (Balearic Islands) and the province of Barcelona (Catalonia) there is a yellow warning for rain that will accumulate 20 liters in one hour. In the Canary Islands, Lanzarote also has a yellow warning for adverse coastal phenomena with combined seas from the north or northeast with waves of 4 to 5 meters.
The snow level will be around 500 to 700 meters in the extreme northeast of the peninsula and from 700 to 1,000 in the rest of the northern half.
Showers in the Mediterranean area, southern Andalusia and the Balearic Islands
On Wednesday there will be cloudy skies in much of the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, with showers in the Mediterranean area, southern Andalusia and the Balearic archipelago. In general terms, the snow level will be above 1,000 meters.
The frost will continue in much of the interior and will be more intense in the Pyrenees and in the moors of the central area. The atmosphere will be cold, with maximum temperatures below 10ºC in much of the interior and in the Mediterranean it will not exceed 15 to 17ºC. In provincial capitals – for example, Teruel – it will reach -3ºC.
According to the AEMET, from the second half of the week it is possible that temperatures will rise, although the cold atmosphere will persist. The night frosts will continue, although they could be restricted to the north of the peninsula and some central areas during the weekend.
20-40 liters per square meter in these areas
For its part, Eltiempo.es indicates that a DANA will begin to approach the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula this Tuesday. This phenomenon will move westward across the north of the peninsula until it reaches the Atlantic. Simultaneously, low pressures will form on the surface around the Gulf of Cádiz. According to the prediction, this situation will favor instability, since easterly winds will prevail over the east of the peninsula between Wednesday and Thursday.
On Wednesday it will rain in Andalusia, Murcia, the Valencian Community, Catalonia and the Balearic Islands. Due to the drop in temperatures, light snowfall could be recorded in mountainous areas of eastern Andalusia, including Sierra Nevada, points of the Iberian System and especially in the eastern Pyrenees. On Thursday, rainfall will persist in the same regions, although it could intensify in western Andalusia and the Strait area. In addition, rain is expected in Extremadura and Castilla-La Mancha.
Eltiempo.es highlights that The rains could be locally heavy on the coasts of Catalonia, the Valencian Community and the north of the Balearic Islands.with accumulated amounts that could exceed 20-40 liters per square meter (l/m²). For Friday, precipitation will be limited to points in the southwest and the peninsular Atlantic slope, while atmospheric stability will increase significantly throughout the country.
