In the midst of a wave of fires, with climate change in the background and the failure of a housing law which is postponed to September due to the lack of support, the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has taken stock of the political course before leaving for vacation, as is tradition.
The Chief Executive has done what he does best, turning the situation around. Thus, what seemed like an economic and political balance has revolved around the wave of fires that devastate our country. Due to corruption, he tiptoed and, from Zapatero, full support until proven otherwise to both him and the Plus Ultra rescue. However, Sánchez has dedicated a few minutes to defend his brother, David Sánchez, and his wife, Begoña Gómez. “The only thing they have done in their lives is work”he has stated.
The President of the Executive has harshly criticized the “dehumanization” of the figure of his wifewhich has praised its professionalism. Like his brother, of whom he has given an exhaustive account of his extensive resume. “Although they are my brother and my wife, they are David Sánchez and Begoña Gómez. My brother has dedicated his entire life to training and he has every right to demand a sentence that he considers unjust. Same with Begoña Gómez, we met when I was 30 years old. On the other hand, Sánchez has charged against the organizations and political parties represented as a popular accusation in the cases that affect his wife and his brother. Thus, he has accused them of having “intentionality” and of only presenting proposals linked to increasing prison sentences. “I don’t agree with it,” he concluded.
Climate denialism of PP and Vox
In this way, Sánchez left the reason for his appearance, the balance of the political course, in the background. At this point, the climate change mantra has been the axis of his speechthrowing balls out and sticking out his chest for all the measures that his Government has taken to stop the advance of this serious global problem.
In this sense, he has gone straight to the point and has demanded a State Pact in the face of the Climate Emergency. An agreement that requires all regional governments, including those who lead “climate denialism”in clear allusion to the PP and its pacts with Vox. “Climate denialism is the worst fuel in the climate emergency. Denying reality makes us much more vulnerable and shows a more vulnerable population,” he stated.
The President of the Government has accused Alberto Nüñez Feijóo’s party of playing into Vox’s hands and contributing to those regions where he governs to the stoppage of renewable energiesworkhorse of this Executive. “They agree with the extreme right that denies the effects of climate change and the consequences of the climate emergency,” Sánchez stressed.
The Government of “ordinary people”
In front of them, the head of the Executive has stuck out his chest for the price of electricity in Spain, thanks to “brave decisions that have upset a few.” This is how he recalled the last measure of fuel tax reduction which came as a consequence of the war between the United States and Iran. “How would others have responded to these crises?” he asked. For all these reasons, Sánchez has defined his team as the Government of “ordinary people”, the one that was born in 2018 after the PP cuts stage.
Already economically, Sánchez has assured that Spain is the economy that is growing the most within the eurozone. Although at a political level its balance did not go beyond the approval of 26 regulations with the force of law, which did not prevent that image of weakness of a Government incapable of once again carrying out the Budgets. In figures, supported by the Active Population Survey (EPA), made public today, Sánchez has boasted of his employment record: “Break the employment record every so often and affiliation has become the norm. Spain is achieving something extraordinary.” Another proof? Since the pandemic, the Executive has reduced the public debt in our country by 20 points. But the list goes on: “All this growth would not be if it did not reach the middle class, the workers of our country. We have increased spending on social benefits145,000 million euros more for health, education, etc.”
A positive balance that clashes when we come across the housing problem. Sánchez has once again attacked the communities governed by the PP for not applying the Executive’s housing law. Thus, he has stated that it is “important” to evaluate the behavior of the market where the law is being applied, since “the rental price is becoming cheaper without affecting supply”.
In short, Sánchez has made it clear that there is still a Government for a while and that “there is one year left to conclude the legislature”, no matter who it may be.
