Moscow- Russian scientists from the Institute of Scientific Research of the Arctic and Antarctica (AANII, for Russian) observed today the Fall of a brilliant meteor that flew over the Russian polar station “Vostok” in the central region of the Antarctica.
As reported by the center on its Telegram channel, “the intensely luminous object crossed the night sky today, August 13, about 4:00 pm, local time.”
“The meteorite advanced quickly and left behind a brilliant white trail that could be observed in the sky for more than half an hour,” added the AANII, which published photos of the cackle.

The researchers pointed out that “many meteorites fall every day, but most falls take place in poor areas: surfaces on the sea, wide forests, deserts, tundras or mountains.”
“The photographs and videos of these phenomena are usually very rare,” said Serguéi Drozdov, scientist at the Astronomical Center of the Institute of Physics Lébedev, cited in Telegram.
The expert said that “in this case, the amazing thing is that in such a little populated area the footprint of the shiny car’s flight was filmed.”
According to Drozdov, “most likely it is some fragments have reached the surface and could be found in the future.”
