The high temperatures, the wind and the heavy rain and storms have led to activate weather warnings in eleven autonomous communities, with Catalonia and Aragon to the head, where they have already been activated emergency plans at the risk of blowouts, hailstorms and flash floods.
The passing of a trough across the Peninsula it will favor the formation of very strong storms in the east of the peninsula, with intense rains. hail and very strong gusts of wind. Meteorologists warn that Some storms could present a high degree of organization and generate severe episodes.
Orange warning for strong storms and intense rains in Catalonia and Teruel
The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has activated the orange alert (significant risk) in areas of the interior of Catalonia and in the province of Teruel, where the accumulation of water can reach up to 40 liters per square meter in one hour.
In Catalonia, Civil Protection of the Generalitat has activated the alert phase Special emergency plan for floods in Catalonia (Inuncat), in the forecast of intense storms and associated violent phenomena, such as strong gusts of wind and hail.
Meteocat, the Meteorological Service of Catalonia, has warned of the possible exceeding of danger thresholds due to rainfall intensity with more than 40 liters per square meter in 30 minutes, as well as accumulations greater than 60 liters in three hours in large areas of the community.
The areas of greatest irrigation will be Central Catalonia, Pyrenees and Eastern Pre-Pyrenees, interior of Camp de Tarragona and Central Pre-Litoral. The showers may be accompanied by storms and violent weather phenomena, especially very strong gusts of wind and rock.
The Catalan Water Agency (ACA) and the Ebro Hydrographic Confederation (CHE) have reinforced surveillance against the Possible flooding of rivers and streams and their effects on flood-prone areas.
Civil Protection asks “exercise caution”especially when traveling and in activities carried out outdoors, given the possibility of rapid accumulations of water or sudden flooding of streams and torrents.
Aragón activates PROCIFEMAR due to storms and risk of flooding
For its part, the Government of Aragon has launched the Special Civil Protection Plan against Adverse Meteorological Phenomena in Aragon (PROCIFEMAR) in the alert phase due to storm warnings issued by the AEMET.
The orange notice affects Gúdar and Maestrazgo, between 2:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.. In addition, yellow warnings remain active in the Pyrenees of Huesca, the Iberian Peninsula of Zaragoza and the regions of Albarracín and Jiloca, from 2:00 p.m. to 11:59 p.m.
