The week begins with the same trend with which the previous one ended. Fully winter temperatures accompanied by precipitation in the form of rain and snowespecially in the northern half of the Peninsula. The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) maintains the red level warning in the Principality of Asturias and in Castilla y León. In areas of the Cantabrian Mountains with Palencia, León and Asturias, accumulations of 40 centimeters of snow are expected in the next 24 hours at levels of 1,200 meters. In the higher ones, greater accumulations are expected.
This is because, during the day this Monday, The Peninsula and the Balearic Islands will continue to be under the influence of an arctic air mass that will coexist with the approach of a Mediterranean storm. The rainfall will spread over large areas of the northern half of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands, without ruling out some showers in Alborán. There will be moderate to heavy snowfall during the first half of the day in large areas of the northern half of the peninsula, being especially abundant in the areas mentioned above. The warning level in Navarra drops to yellow, according to the AEMET.
Temperatures continue to drop
The AEMET reports that temperatures will continue to dropmoderately in the south of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands, leaving a unpleasant day in most of the Spanish territory. The frosts will affect most of the interior of the northern half and the southeast quadrant of the peninsula, becoming moderate in the Pyrenees. Ávila and Granada are the only two cities in which negative temperatures are expected, but five others will reach 0ºC.
Temperatures in the capitals today
Much of the Peninsula will not reach ten degrees this Monday. Burgos will not exceed 4ºC throughout the day and it is expected that Soria and Segovia will not exceed 5ºC either.. The capital of Spain will not reach ten either, expecting a maximum of 9ºC. Yes, coastal cities from different parts of our geography such as Barcelona, Valencia or Cádiz will surpass them. Also some inland like Seville. The bulk of maximum temperatures today will range between 10ºC and 15ºC. Santa Cruz and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria will reach 23ºC.
There are also wind warnings
The wind will blow from the north and northwest in the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, that during the first hours of the day there will be strong intervals and very strong gusts in some areas of Asturias, Cantabria and Aragón, easing after noon. In the Canary Islands, moderate trade winds will blow with strong intervalsreaching over 33 km/h in the Hermigua area.
