Nedgia and FEGECA promote a fair and efficient energy transition

Nedgia, Naturgy’s gas distributor, has renewed its collaboration agreement with the Association of Manufacturers of Heat Generators and Emitters (FEGECA) to promote sustainable and innovative energy solutions, around the use and promotion of efficient equipment and technical solutions of renewable gas.

With this agreement, both entities also seek to strengthen their commitment to professional development in the energy, air conditioning and heating and hot water services sectors.

The role of biomethane

Biomethane is emerging as one of the great solutions to advance the energy transition efficiently, since having qualities similar to those of natural gas, it can be distributed through the existing gas infrastructure without undertaking large investments and can be used in industries, businesses and in homes, since its use is compatible with domestic boilers.

Another of the great advantages of this renewable gas is the promotion of rural environments and the circular economy. When obtained from waste treatment, biomethane contributes to the decarbonization of the primary sector and helps it achieve emissions reduction and recycling objectives. In addition, a digestate is derived from its production that can be used for the production of organic fertilizers, completing the cycle of the circular economy.

The gas network plays a strategic role in the deployment of renewable gases. Nedgia currently has eight biomethane generation facilities connected to its network with a joint injection capacity of more than 200 GWh/year.

Closed contracts

In addition to the plants that are already operating and injecting renewable gas into the distribution network, Nedgia has closed contracts for another 60 facilities to pour their production into the network, with an injection capacity of 3TWh, and is in negotiations with the promoters of other plants. 80 installations, which will add another more than 5 TWh of additional renewable gas generation.

Marta de Pablos, Director of Capture of Nedgia, has indicated that “the agreement reiterates our commitment to renewable gases, specifically biomethane, as an essential energy vector in the immediate future of homes and its ease of implementation to achieve decarbonization objectives. that we have as a society.”

The president of FEGECA, Nicolás Klingenberg, highlighted that “this collaboration strengthens the joint work of both organizations in favor of innovative and sustainable energy solutions. It is a reflection of the shared commitment of both entities to sustainable development, decarbonization and the generation of value for society.”
