In the design of Moncloa’s political and legal strategy regarding the “Ábalos case” the hypothesis is already being handled that the open investigations – Begoña Gómez and “Koldo case” – will end in an indictment of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez. In the conspiracy theory on which they have supported their defense for months, the clarification is now added that it is not that they are considering that “there is or will be” any real basis for proceeding in that direction of the accusation in any of the cases. processes currently open – in the matter of his wife, “there is no case”, and in the matter of Ábalos, the president “is a victim of the deception” of his minister. Now, the fear of accusation that has long been in the head of the president and some of his closest advisors is justified by the “alliance of the right with the judges to overthrow the Government.” From the Interior, unofficially, they are even trying to find out if the PP has access to information about the investigation through “unestablished” channels.
The plot script is already being drawn up in case the worst scenario comes and to be able to handle it from that position of victim in the face of the “plot” of the right and the judges who say they want to put an end to them. Thus, while they talk about “tranquility” and that they are not afraid of the confessions of Ábalos or any other main actor in the investigation by the commissions on the masks, or of the subplots that move around it, at the same time they are already ruminating on the expectation that along the way Sánchez will come across an accusation that will completely disable him politically. According to what is said in the president’s most trusted core, this is the first to become aware of the possibility of the right achieving its objective.
On the other hand, the closing of ranks that, for the moment, the partners of the coalition government have expressed is subject to political and media pressure, and through private channels, they have already made the “necessary” consultations with their usual socialist interlocutors to try to clarify how far the “Ábalos case” can go and what is really behind the adventures of the former minister and other investigated people. The message from the socialist leadership is that everything remains in the sphere of the former number three of the PSOE, the bad apple in the basket, and in “his gang of raids”, and that, therefore, they can “be calm” because they do not ” There is nothing that affects either Moncloa or any other ministry or the territorial structure of the party. A denial in capital letters so that none of the coalition parties deviate from closing ranks with Sánchez.
The same strategy that the PP used when it was surrounded by corruption, that of defending itself with the argument that it is a limited and non-systemic problem, is the one that they now use in Moncloa to disassociate themselves from the “corruption” of Ábalos. But contingency plans are already being drawn up internally. For the PSOE it is even more important today than yesterday to carry out the Budgets and for the national leader to leave the Federal Congress at the end of November without a mark.
In that sense, Moncloa’s actions are carried out in three areas: the partners, the party (control of the territorial leaders), and they are also using “secondary paths” to send a message to the former Minister of Public Works to avoid total confrontation. “Here we have to try to limit the damage because we can all lose.” Ábalos is also using his terminals to leave notices to Moncloa. The former minister, as former Secretary of Organization of the PSOE, is one of the guardians of the socialist essences, but from Moncloa they are already ensuring that he receives the warning that he must be careful if he does not want to be harmed in his judicial future . The accusation of the former minister has been taken for granted before the UCO report was made public. In the president’s circle, the figure of businessman Víctor de Aldama, in prison, and aware of all the details of the plot and all those involved in it, is equally or more concerned. And another “delicate” issue is the situation of the former minister’s romantic partner, who has gone from accumulating significant income on account of her relationship with him to being in the media spotlight and “unemployed.”
