La Razon Hardgaming – ASUS Vivobook S 14: A compact laptop with military certification that combines autonomy and performance

The laptop ASUS Vivobook S 14 It began to be marketed in Spain in May 2025, incorporating the processors for the first time. Intel Core Ultra Series 2 to the ASUS catalog. The model is part of the Copilot+ PC standard and offers a set of premium features in a compact design. But what kind of experience does it offer? What are its most notable elements? At La Razón Hardgaming we tested a unit very recently and now we share our impressions with you.

Design and connectivity

To start, inside the box you will find the laptop, power cable, power adapter, and user manuals. The first thing that catches your attention about the Vivobook S in terms of design is an elegant all-metal construction in gray that is committed to portability. This is evident in its 1.59 cm thickness and 1.3 kg weight. In other words, you will have no problem carrying it in a backpack or during your travels. In this regard, it also stands out level of protection following military MIL-STD-810H certificationwhich guarantees the resistance of the equipment even in extreme conditions. Even so, the finish is sensitive to fingerprints.

This portable unit incorporates a ErgoSense keyboardwhich offers a good separation between keys and a short travel, a feature present in many models of the brand. Furthermore, it has customizable backlight and a shortcut to Copilot that allows faster use of Artificial Intelligence functions. It’s a shame that the dedicated numeric keypad has been omitted, but at least the touchpad is a nice size and feel, and offers comfortable use when you don’t have a mouse.

In terms of connections, on the left side you can find an HDMI 2.1 output, two USB-C ports with Thunderbolt 4, a microSD card slot and a 3.5 mm headphone/microphone jack. On the right side there are two USB-A 3.2 ports. Connectivity options are completed with Wi-Fi 7 (or 6E depending on unit) and Bluetooth 5.4.

Performance and system

This laptop comes equipped with the Intel Core Ultra 7 258Vintegrated Intel Arc 140V graphics and a 47 TOPS NPU. The processor is complemented by 32 GB of RAM and 1 TB of PCIe Gen 4 SSD internal storage.

In most cases it has responded perfectly. The memory is enough to open several tabs at the same time, and the CPU can run basic and medium-demand programs with great performance. And is this ultra-thin laptop capable of running some basic games, even without a graphics card? Yes, depending on configuration. In ‘Fall Guys’, we were able to run it in Full HD resolution with high settings above 70 fps; in ‘Warzone’, it was advisable to adjust to mid/low to maintain a stable rate. In ‘Valorant’ or ‘Counter-Strike 2’, which demands more from the hardware, the maximum quality is not recommended, but both work correctly.

Operating system

The ASUS Vivobook S 14 comes with Windows 11 Home as native operating system. The manufacturer does not include many applications beyond the usual ones, but there are some such as MyASUSwhich are especially useful, as it manages the hardware and allows you to activate functions such as AI noise cancellation on the microphone and speaker, or even control the power of the fan. The other is ScreenXpert, to adjust both the multimedia settings and the activation of the microphone or the arrangement of the screen frames.

Display and audio features

The Vivobook S has a screen 14-inch Lumina OLED capable of reaching up to 600 nits of brightness, enough for moderate outdoors. It offers 10 bits of color with vivid and precise tones in all image types with a 2.8K resolution and a refresh rate of 120 Hz with a response time of 0.2 ms (depending on configuration).

This combination provides very smooth movement and low latency, common features in gaming equipment that are here integrated into an ultra-portable device. But despite its quality, this screen has shortcomings due to the lack of an anti-reflective coating. This causes a mirror effect during the day or in backlight. Also we miss Dolby Vision to improve viewing on streaming services.

On the audio level, ASUS has incorporated a stereo system made up of two speakers located at the base, one on each side. They offer the characteristic sound of Harman Kardon and crystal-clear audio supported by AI features. In practice it is powerful, with well-balanced frequencies and bass above the average for its category. Dolby Atmos compatibility contributes to this and allows you to make adjustments to taste using the equalizer without having to turn the volume to maximum.

Battery

For this feature, the house has opted for a 75 Wh battery that boasts autonomy with light use and over 19 hours of video playback. Does this translate into actual performance? In several work and play sessions the laptop may not reach the advertised duration, but it is enough to work and play without needing to plug it in during the day. In any case, it has a very efficient charging cycle and it is enough to leave the device plugged in for a couple of hours to get up to 12 of usesomething that is more than satisfactory.

In summary

If you are looking for a powerful laptop with the latest generation hardware without sacrificing portability and durability, you should not overlook the ASUS Vivobook S 14. On the other hand, it has construction materials that tend to get dirty with fingerprints, a screen without anti-reflective coating and the absence of Dolby Vision. But its performance allows you to use it not only for simple jobs, but also for more demanding tasks, such as image editing and even in games that do not require the power of a dedicated GPU. The OLED screen offers high definition with very smooth movements, while the sound system stands out in power and quality. Not to mention a battery that exceeds 12 hours of autonomy. All protected under military standards.
