It is not a smartwatch, it is a “superwatch” for explorers

It seems repetitive, but it is a reality and although the original proverb talks about doors and windows, the truth is that Google’s veto has closed a dam for Huawei, but it has open an ocean: smart watches. In recent years, Huawei has become a leader in the sale of smart watches thanks to three basic premises: design, battery and innovation. An example of this is the latest model from the house, the Huawei Watch Ultimate 2.

The Chinese manufacturer has launched what They call their watch “more premium”, but it is much more than that: It is a survival and communication tool that is as comfortable in the depths of the ocean as it is in a work meeting. Let’s break down why this watch is so revolutionary.

Communication under water is, without a doubt, the characteristic that separates it from any other. While orOther smart watches are limited to resisting water, the Ultimate 2 interacts with it. Thanks to acoustic signaling technology, you can communicate with other divers who have the same watch within a radius of up to 30 meters. Imagine being able to send a “Look at that!” or a preset message like “Follow me” underwater.

But that’s not all. The Ultimate 2 also allows you to control a playlist from your wrist and even answer calls while you are submerged (up to 150 meters deep). How is this possible? Here’s a little trick, Communication is not carried out through the traditional mobile network (4G/5G), since radio waves attenuate very quickly in water. Instead, the watch uses its underwater communication system using acoustic signals (sound) to connect to your mobile phone, which must be on the surface or near the diving area.

underwater It also has a function called Emergency SOS. When activated, the watch sends a distress signal that can be picked up by other watches within a 60-meter radius, facilitating a quick response in case of trouble.

In this way, these are not simple additions to the programming or materials: Huawei has developed a security ecosystem in this watch and collaboration for serious divers that until now did not exist in a consumer device.

But connectivity is not just underwater. Huawei has integrated two top-level technologies. The first is a GAP Antenna and it is one of the most interesting engineering developments in recent years. Instead of adding a separate antenna (a wire or piece of copper inside the box), Huawei engineers have used the space that exists in the metal structure of the watch (hence the term GAP, which means space or opening) to function as an antenna. This antenna consists of a precise, millimeter slot or opening that is carved into the liquid metal frame of the watch. The slot (the GAP) is electrically excited to radiate radio waves, functioning as a high-efficiency antenna.

This is an important advantage, since, being part of the structure, it is better protected than a conventional internal antenna. It also provides better reception as it is “outside” integrated into the casing. Basically, it’s not that the clock have a GAP antenna, but part of its structural design is the antenna.

The Ultimate 2 also features Huawei Sunflower positioning that It uses dual frequency bands and is supported by five satellite navigation systems. (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, Beidou and QZSS) to offer almost millimeter precision. Bottom line: getting lost is much harder.

The combination of the eSIM (for independent calls without the mobile) and this set of connectivities makes it the ideal companion for high-risk expeditions, where every meter and every signal bar counts.

Regarding the design, Huawei has not skimped on materials, and it shows, both in the features and in the price (€899). The Ultimate 2 has a zirconium liquid metal body, an alloy significantly stronger and more durable than stainless steel or titanium conventional, which translates into exceptional robustness with low weight. The nanocrystalline ceramic bezel and the sapphire crystal add to give it resistance characteristics, suitable for subjecting it to extreme environments.

Regarding health, always highlighting that it is not a medical device, the Ultimate 2 is a mini-laboratory on the wrist. The first thing is its TruSense system, the biometric heart of the watch. The most innovative is the X-TAP sensor, located in the crown, which allows electrocardiograms to be performed directly from the fingertipsupporting the detection of conditions such as atrial fibrillation. Blood oxygen levels are also measured from the corona, but they are done in a timely and precise manner, not just in a continuous and estimated manner. In total, it integrates up to 10 key metrics (heart rate, sleep, stress, etc.) into a unified and easy-to-understand view.

And we come to the battery. In a world where many high-end smartwatches struggle to reach two days, the Ultimate 2 offers an autonomy that can exceed 10 days (in saving mode) and reach 4 in “ultra” mode. There is no need to carry the charger if we go on a long weekend.. And one hour is enough to fully charge it. Of course, if we don’t have that much time, with 10 minutes, we have enough for a day of use.

The Huawei Watch Ultimate 2 is not only Huawei’s most advanced smartwatch, it is a mirror in which the wearable technology of the future must be reflected.
