We’ve spent the last week messing around with the OnePlus 12Ra smartphone designed to take its unsuspected possibilities to the limit. From a solid hardwarethrough innovative software advances designed to optimize each function and improve the performance of the phone, this model has enough qualities to become a gaming deviceas well as providing exemplary service in other routine functions, but does the whole thing work? Here we try to answer this and other questions.
Trinity Engine
If we look at its technical specifications, the OnePlus 12R takes advantage of its competitors in the recreational area thanks to the Trinity Enginea platform developed by the Chinese manufacturer that offers improved performance for the CPU, RAM and ROM, making the device one of the best machines with multitasking applications on the market. The creature comes equipped with a processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 with the Adreno 740 GPU and in our country it is available in two versions: 8GB RAM and 128GB storage or 16GB RAM and 256GB UFS 4.0This last option is the one we have tested.
RAM-Vita
The team runs under Android 14with the interface OnePlus OxygenOS 14. In the past, Oxygen OS was one of the most stripped-down OEM versions of Android, but today it’s a highly recommended option. Keeping all this tech in check is the “RAM-Vita,” which helps the OnePlus 12R deliver blazing fast app launches and task switching. This AI-powered RAM acceleration solution requires the device’s main memory to be quickly freed up and reallocated for a smoother overall experience. In this patch of innovation, a feature called “Live Lock” is also enabled, which allows you to choose up to six apps to remain locked for up to 72 hours, even when minimized. This means that You can lock and keep a video game active in the backgroundwhile you take a long break. Once recovered, you can return without having to carry anything.
We usually associate performance with battery consumption. But it seems that this no longer has to be the case. The Snapdragon in the OnePlus 12R seems to achieve a Constant balance between performance and system stress. This applies reducing energy consumption during the most demanding operationssuch as running video games or playing around with HDR videos. In practice, it also means a reduction in the level of heat given off by the phone’s camera or GPS.
HyperTouch, HyperBoost and HyperRender
This set of technologies called Trinity Engine is supported by three tools: HyperTouch, HyperBoost and HyperRender. The job of the first is to ensure that screen touches are recognized and acted upon immediatelyachieving a touch sampling rate of up to 1000 Hz. The HyperBoost function aims to facilitate the smoothest gaming experience possibleThat is, it employs an AI-powered machine learning system to stabilize the frame rate of high-intensity games, helping to keep your phone cool. HyperRender Dynamically optimizes screen brightness to deliver realistic lighting and shadow effects no matter what environment you’re playing in.
Slider
The Gorilla Glass 5 back and chassis feel solid enough to the touch. The power and volume controls are on the right edge, and the left is home to the alerts slider. This remains one of the best features of OnePlus phones, as with a flick of the switch you can set the phone to ring, vibrate, or remain silent.
Look me in the face
The OnePlus 12R keeps your gaze on you with a 6.78-inch display with 2,780 x 1,264 pixel resolutionprotected by Corning Gorilla Victus 2, which has been equipped with AMOLED and LTPO technologies with refresh rates up to 120Hz, support for HDR10 and Dolby Vision, a combination that not even the Galaxy S24 can achieve. In our tests we have played long and hard (literally) at ‘Dead By Daylight Mobile‘, ‘Brawl Stars‘, ‘PUGB Mobile‘, ‘Subway Surfers‘ and surfing the Xbox Live cloud, with maxed-out graphics, consistent frame rates, and virtually no stuttering.
At full capacity
There is literally nothing that the OnePlus 12R cannot execute with excellence, from the simple ‘Crossy Road’ to the poorly optimized ‘Dead By Daylight Mobile‘, the phone does not show any signs of fatigue. For example, the games of ‘Genshin Impact‘ run at a maximum of 60 fps (frames per second) without breaking a sweat. All this is not achieved by just using raw power and good components; the system must be kept at a temperature to be more efficient and this subject boasts a cooling solution composed of two air chambers: one large and one small. The smaller chamber absorbs heat directly from its source, such as the chipset, and distributes it evenly throughout the small one. To make the coolant flow more easily, a new type of graphite with a thermal conductivity of more than 1700 W/mK is used.
Up to 2 days without charging at medium performance
As for the battery, it boasts a 5,500 mAh capacity, with recharges of up to 100W using SuperVOOC technologycapable of completing a 100% process in just 26 minuteswhich is pretty amazing when you put it into practice. You don’t even have to worry about the battery level, because you can plug it in for a couple of minutes before leaving the house to get power for more than a day.
For everything else
As you can imagine, for more casual tasks such as apps, social media, messaging and web browsing, it goes without saying that the phone can also get the job done effortlessly. Everything opens extremely quickly and the fluidity of switching between applications and browsing the web continues to surprise a week later.
