Google explains how Apple will use Gemini in the new Siri

Google held this week the annual conference Google Cloud Nextin which it presents new developments in areas such as cloud computing, artificial intelligence, infrastructure, cybersecurity, data, developer tools and business products. Google Cloud competes with Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Servicesso the event is more aimed at companies than at the end consumer, but it also talks about topics that interest users. This Wednesday, during the inaugural session, Google took the opportunity to offer a clearer picture of how Gemini will power Apple’s revamped Siri ‘later this year’. Google stated that Apple is using models based on Gemini and Google Cloud as a preferred partner to develop the ‘Apple founding models’who will be behind Apple Intelligence and of the new Sirimore personalized.

On stage was the CEO of Google Cloud, Thomas Kurianwith the Apple logo behind him. He explained that both companies are working together so that these Next-generation models run on Apple devices and the company’s own cloud systems. An alliance that ‘will allow the power of our technology to be accessible to users around the world.’ Google Cloud is Apple’s preferred cloud service provider.

Apple Intelligence launched in the United States in fall 2024 and in Europe in spring 2025. Since then, there have been no major developments.. A Siri with awareness of the user’s personal context has not yet been implemented, nor has control of the iPhone through Siri. Apple has postponed these features on several occasions.

Originally, Apple Intelligence and Siri were planned to They will be completely based on Apple’s own models. However, these are not considered competitive. Faced with this situation, Apple decided to seek help from Google. Now, it is intended that adapted versions of the Gemini models serve as a basis.

Kurian noted that this collaboration will help make Siri more conversational and context-awareusing data on the device and in Private Cloud Compute, Apple’s private cloud computing, while Google Cloud manages the more complex training and inference tasks in the background.

Apple continues to place emphasis on its privacy controls and ensures that will keep personal data separate from Google infrastructure.

The next Siri update will allow you to more advanced actions within apps and perform multi-step tasksmaintaining the chat-type interface. This update could also introduce a dedicated app for Siri which would retain a history of conversations, similar to Gemini.

Apple will pay 1 billion dollars annually to Apple for its technology and to achieve what it has not been able to do on its own. For Google, this agreement also means that Gemini will power AI not only on Android devices, but also on hundreds of millions of iPhones.
