Find in Egypt: Real Tomb reveals secrets of the second intermediate period

Cairo – An Egyptian-American archaeological mission discovered a real tomb of an unknown monarch belonging to the second intermediate period in the Monte Anubis Cemetery of Abidos, located in the central province of Sohag, the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities reported Friday.

“The discovery of the real grave in Abidos contributed new scientific evidence on the development of real tombs in the necropolis of Mount Anubis, which dates back to the Abidos dynasty, where a series of kings ruled Alto Egypt between 1700 AC. And 1600 AC”highlighted the ministry in a statement.

For his part, the head of the Egyptian-American mission in Abidos, Joseph Wagnersaid in the note that the real tomb was found at a depth of about seven meters and consists of a funeral chamber of limestone, covered with adobe vaults that originally reached a height of about 5 meters.

In addition, he clarified that “there are remains of inscriptions on both sides of the entrance that leads to the funeral chamber of the goddesses Isis and Neftis”, with yellow bands that formerly bore the name of the king in hieroglyphs.

This grave is much larger than others previously attributed to the Abidos dynasty, and “the name of the owner of the tomb has not been identified,” said the statement.

He also pointed out that the new information provided by this finding about the kings of this dynasty deepens the understanding of “the complex political history of the second Egyptian intermediate period.”
