Drivers of gasoline and diesel vehicles are urged to fill up before October 1

It is news to no one to see the exorbitant fuel prices that are seen at different gas stations in the country today. Such is the case that in the last quarter, approximately from June 30 to September 24, 2026, 95 gasoline has risen by around €0.48/literwhich is equivalent to about 33%.

The diesel For its part, it has become less expensive, representing an increase of about €0.35–0.40/liter in three months, that is, approximately one 23–27% increase in the last quarter.

However, these figures do not stop rising, so People are starting to worry about whether to refuel today with fuel at the high price it is or wait. If tomorrow or in a couple of days it will go down. When faced with this doubt, the most correct response would be to refuel as soon as possible. And this has an explanation.

Why do you have to refuel before October 1?

This way, It is recommended to refuel before next week since State aid ends on September 30 5 cents per liter refueled for gasoline and 20 cents in the case of diesel.

The Government is studying extending it or replacing it with new measuresalthough as of today there is no final decision. Thus, the continuity of the measures is being negotiated with unions, companies and affected sectors, and it has acknowledged that it is studying extending part of the anti-crisis package.

Royal Decree Law 18/2026 approved at the end of June reformulated the tax aid for fuel that had been in force since March. With this modification, the VAT returned to the general rate of 21% and the bonuses were concentrated in the hydrocarbon tax. The planned calendar established a gradual reduction of the discount; 15 cents per liter in July, 10 cents in August and 5 cents in September, unless the evolution of prices makes it advisable to stop this decline.

The safeguard clause included in the standard established a reinforced discount of 20 cents per liter in the event that the consumer price index for gasoline or diesel exceeds 15%. If said increase occurred in June, the expanded bonus had to be applied in August; if it occurred in July, it would take effect in September.

Nevertheless, The decree does not foresee that the October CPI can trigger new tax cuts. The response plan limits the validity of these support measures until the end of September, without the available information specifying a possible extension.

Government response

The Government affirms, in any case, that “it maintains a minute-by-minute monitoring of the impact of the conflict in Iran on the Spanish economy“. Until the program ends, vehicle drivers in a few days, all citizens enjoy that discount that, even if it is minimal, has an impact on all of us. So when in doubt it is recommended to fill the tanks as soon as possible.
