DJI presents its Osmo 360 II: a camera that records a world, even if we don’t see it

There is a small revolution hidden in 360-degree cameras. For decades, Taking a photograph or recording a video meant making a decision at the same moment: choosing where to point. The framing was part of the capture. If the person we wanted to film was outside, if the action was happening behind us or if the important moment happened a few meters away, we would simply arrive late.

A 360-degree camera changes the rules. There is no longer a need to decide where to look when we press the record button. We can record everything that happens around us and decide the framing later. That is the idea that DJI brings to a new generation with the Osmo 360 II, presented at IFA 2026. And although behind it there is a collection of figures capable of filling any technical sheet (8K, 60 frames per second, HDR, 1 inch, 120 megapixels), perhaps the most interesting thing is not in any of them separately, but in what they can do together.

The Osmo 360 II features a 1-inch square HDR sensor that, according to DJI, uses 25% more surface area than a conventional design and achieves a dynamic range of 14.5 stops. The square format also has a reason for being: it allows maintaining the 360-degree field of view by using the sensor surface more efficiently. The result is the ability to record widescreen video in 8K at 60 fps, even in action scenes where every movement counts. Its 2.4 micrometer pixels and camera processor are designed to preserve detail and reduce motion blur.

But where a camera of this type can start to be really interesting is when the need to think like a traditional cameraman disappears. Let’s imagine someone descending a ski slope. A conventional camera forces us to decide in advance whether we want to show the skier, the landscape or the route. With a 360 camera, all of this is recorded. It is even possible to use a 2.5 meter extendable carbon fiber selfie stick to create perspectives reminiscent of a camera floating above the scene. DJI also allows you to add motion blur to achieve a more cinematic look.

Something similar happens on a mountain bike, in a trail race, motorcycling and a long etcetera. In diving, the camera can be used up to 10 meters deep without additional accessories and Reach 50 meters with the invisible waterproof case. Night is also a particularly difficult setting for a panoramic camera. The Osmo 360 II incorporates Supernight AI 2.0, a noise reduction system based on artificial intelligence that seeks to maintain detail and luminosity in low light conditions.

And after changing the image, there is the possibility of converting time into something else. The camera can generate 16K panoramic timelapses, 120 megapixel 360 HDR photos and 8K Vortex videos at 120 fps. It also offers a panoramic slow motion mode of up to 64x using AI frame interpolation in DJI Studio, equivalent, according to the company, to a crop in 8K and 480 fps.

Not everything has to happen in front of the lens. That is precisely one of the peculiarities of recording in 360 degrees. The Osmo 360 II also incorporates Spotlight Tracking, capable of keeping a subject centered in the frame, even if the camera rotates around it. This way, a panoramic recording can later be converted into a conventional video in which the protagonist remains within the frame without having to follow him during filming.

DJI has also focused on something less spectacular, but essential when a camera is designed to accompany adventures: surviving them. Both lenses incorporate an ultra-hard optical film to increase their resistance to scratches and wear and are also replaceable. The camera weighs 183 grams and includes 105 GB of internal storage.

The battery allows record up to 100 minutes continuously in 8K/30fps and can recover 80% of its charge in 22 minutes. With the battery extension rod, the autonomy can be extended up to 180 minutes. The device is not intended to work in isolation either. It integrates four microphones and a wind noise reduction system, and can be connected directly to different microphones in the DJI ecosystem using OsmoAudio. The one-touch NFC connection also makes it easy to pair with the DJI Mimo app to transfer footage or directly access editing tools.

The Osmo 360 II arrives in Spain from today in two configurations: the Standard Pack, for 589 euros, and the Adventure Pack, for 739 euros. Accessories such as a lens kit, battery extension rod and a heavy-duty clamp will also be available separately.
