Denmark seeks to create artificial island that will supply energy to 10 million homes

Denmark It is studying building an artificial island in the North Sea, about 50 miles from the Jutland Peninsula, to centralize and distribute the electricity generated by hundreds of offshore wind turbines.

According to the Danish Energy Agency, the project contemplates an initial capacity of 3 gigawatts (GW), expandable to 10 GW by 2040. enough to supply about 10 million European homes. The infrastructure would come into operation from 2036three years later than originally planned.

The energy platform would have a minimum area of ​​almost 1.3 million square feet and would be connected by high-voltage undersea cables to Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Belgium and the United Kingdom. It would function as a distribution center that would collect electricity generated by offshore wind farms to send it to land.
