From this Tuesday until next Friday it is taking place in vegas the largest consumer electronics fair, the Consumer Electronics Show. In it CESalmost everything fits. From cars and televisions to processors, drones and robots. But, as expected, the generative artificial intelligence He is one of the protagonists this year. Manufacturers try to bring it to as many devices as possible and one that will be widely available this year is on televisions.
The question that many consumers may ask themselves, if they decide to renew their television in 2025, is, exactly, what is the purpose of having an AI assistant on TV? On the occasion of the CES we have learned the response from Samsung. Is called Vision AI and will be available on all smart TVs Neo QLED, QLED and OLED launched this year, the first graceful model being the Neo QLED 8K QN990F.
As explained by the South Korean manufacturer in Las Vegas, the new televisions with Vision AI ensure ‘understand the environment’ to better adapt to viewing conditions. So, for example, Vision AI will adjust the image and audio of what you are viewing based on the content and time of day. Another feature in which AI is the protagonist is the rescaling of content to adapt it to resolutions higher than the original. We must not forget that, although televisions are now common 4K and 8Kthe audiovisual offer at these resolutions remains scarce. As for sound, AI algorithms are also responsible for enhance dialogues so that they can be heard more clearly when necessary.
Generative AI on Samsung televisions
These are functions that work invisible to the user, but the addition of Vision AI will also allow us to carry out tasks that are currently delegated to the smartphone. ‘Click to search’ allows you to obtain information about what is on the screen. This feature can provide the name of actors in the movie and answer questions about them or about objects shown in a scene. Samsung defends that this is a common activity for many users while watching TV and in this way it can be done without resorting to a second device.
‘Live translation’ is another new AI function that translates and generates subtitles in real time, which is very practical for accessing content in other languages that do not have them or are not available in your language.
Samsung televisions will also allow creating wallpapers with generative AIso that the user can personalize their Smart TV to their liking.
Vision AI also integrates with the SmartThings ecosystem, Samsung’s smart home platform. So, ‘Home Perspectives’ provides real-time updates on the home environment, including security alerts, while “Family and pet care” can detect unusual behavior in both pets and family members.
During Samsung’s presentation, the integration of its televisions with Copilotto which he has also pointed LGand that he also planned to work with Google. Copilot is the name of Microsoft’s AI that uses language models of OpenAI and, according to Mustafa SuleimanCEO of Microsoft AI and co-founder of DeepMind who participated in the event, a chatbot on the television can help the user to overcome the well-known ‘choice fatigue’ with personalized recommendations or chatting with the user about the content.
What Samsung has not clarified is the role that its chatbot plays Bixby in all this. It’s likely to work in some capacity with Vision AI – Samsung continues to promote it as a voice assistant in SmartThings, for example – and combine its operation with the Copilot models and those that arrive, later, from Google.
This commitment to AI is reflected in the television remote control, which will incorporate a dedicated button, but it will not be the only option to control the TV remotely. Samsung’s Galaxy phones can be used as a remote control for the brand’s televisions, just like its smart watches.
