The camping in Puerta del Sol continues this Monday after a second night of protest against the housing situation and against evictions. Hundreds of people remain in the center of Madrid, where there are already more than 300 tents.
The mobilization began after Saturday’s demonstration under the slogan “Not one more Maricarmen”which brought together about 25,000 people, according to the Government Delegation. The case of Maricarmen Abascalevicted from the home in which she had lived for 70 years, has become a symbol of the protests.
The Tenants Union assures that the camping will continue while waiting for the so-called “Maricarmen decree”. Among their main complaints are the indefinite rental contracts and measures to avoid evictions without housing alternatives.
The focus is now on the Council of Ministers on Tuesdaywhile the protesters maintain the protest in Sol and wait for new movements from the Government on housing.
